I stayed here one night and loved everything about it. The room was very cozy and homey. The ground, the landscape and the view were fantastic!! I hated to leave it behind and wished for return.

I made a reservation in August right before school started and couldn't find a place. I was assured of the cancellation window and in that time cancelled my reservation. Even if I misunderstood and was wrong on the date, according to their website I would get 1/2 of my full payment back. Instead when I called I never got a call back. When I finally cornered the manager she talked over me and hung up on me and told me I had to send an email which I did and nobody ever replied to it. So to be clear I never stayed there, cancelled 8 days prior to the stay and was charged full price. Think carefully if this is really a place with which you want to do business. Still might report them to the BBB.

This place is so quaint and cozy and has so much character. I read reviews about it not being up to date and those are people that don’t appreciate character. The vintage ski lodge charm is exactly what I loved about it. It is not modern but at the same time is clean and perfect for the location. You won’t feel like you are in Vail, but rather feel like you are in a local loved lodge. Im so glad that investors haven’t come in and changed it because that’s what makes it so great. If you are looking for a 5 star spa and characterless style made for IG, this is not your place, but if you appreciate views, friendly and helpful staff and feeling like you are in a Wes Anderson set…this is the perfect place!

Overall, a nice hotel, though, a bit pricey. My true rating for it is somewhere between a 3 and 4 stars, so I landed on 4.The good:The grounds are very well maintained. There was a wedding being prepared for the days we were there, so maybe they paid closer attention to the grounds than normal? Not sure. The pool was clean, though very cold in early July. It was very quiet the days we were there. Normally, you hear the slamming of doors from other rooms, and little kids and drunk parents screaming down the hallways as you're trying to sleep. This was not the case here. Our room was fairly clean, and the carpet looked less than 2 years old. The place has nice charm and is tucked away in a nice quiet location. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Attached is a view from our 2nd floor room. The not so good:The building is starting to be in disrepair. Renovations and upgrades are needed very soon. This place has so much potential, and it would be a shame for it to continue to be left to degrade. There's an outside balcony in each room, but when I walked on it, it doesn't feel very secure. I made sure to walk on top of the studs. I think this balcony is a huge safety hazard. There were lots of stains (blood or something else) on almost all off our sheets and towels. The murphy bed comforter had significant blood stains on it. I had to completely remove all the sheets and comforter from the murphy bed and ask the attendant for a new set, which he gladly got for me.There's a very small indoor pool (maybe 8 feet by 15 feet), which I at first thought was the hot tub. Unfortunately, the hot tub was one of the kinds that you would find at someone's house, not at a hotel. Our room did not have a microwave or refrigerator, so eating out meant we could not bring back any leftovers. The heating ducts on the floor desperately needed a good cleaning. They were filled with so much dust, and sprinkled with potato chips - a good breeding ground for bugs. All in all, I would recommend this place for a family looking for a quiet, peaceful place to stay in Stowe. For us, I can't see paying again what we paid there. I think there might be better options for that price, but I would consider coming back to Stowhof in the future.

We stayed 2 nights on a anniversary trip. Rustic dated lodge but cozy. Views were beautiful! Staff were friendly and attentive. We enjoyed the heated pool and hot tub. We ate breakfast one am, not included in room price, pricey, but good.Room was big, bed not so comfy. Enjoyed our stay!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Stowehof! Our room, as well as the hotel lounge and dining area had incredible views of the mountains. It felt like we were in a 60s ski chalet. Our room was very roomy and had a nice balcony, which we enjoyed going out on in the mornings. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Our only complaint is that it is a little old and just needs a bit more maintenance / renovation. But really, you can't beat the stunning views here.

Very quaint and beautiful hotel. So unique. Nice to stay here and not in some typical corporate warehouse. They do not make places like this anymore. Amazing views as well. Staff was absolutely wonderful.

Only thing I was thinking is to make sure that you disclose the variable room sizes and ammenities. It was a random selection process and I eneded up with a fairly small room with low ceilings. At 6'3" and not skinny, I felt a little oversized for the room compared to the rooms my travel mates were in. But overally it still worked and didn't spend much time in there.

We hosted our wedding at the Stowehof and it was absolutely perfect! We wanted a cool Vermont spot that wasn’t too stuffy and had enough that guests could stay on the property all weekend without leaving if they wanted. We had the entire property just for our guests and it was so incredible to have the space just for our wedding. The property is beautiful, our wedding photos were really varied and all lovely. Our wedding planner, Lindsey Leichthammer, worked closely with the Stowehof team to make sure everything went off without a hitch. We can’t wait to come back for anniversaries in the future and would absolutely recommend hosting your own wedding at the Stowehof!

We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. Property is clean but clearly needs some general upkeeping that has not been done in quite some time. Curtains were falling off hooks, paint was chipping and lock on our door was very tricky to lock.

We came The Stowehoff on our honeymoon 25 years ago, and returned for our silver celebration. We love the slightly rustic elegance - a “not too big, not too small” inn than calms, welcomes and envelopes with the warmth of spatial wisdom. It’s hard not to feel settled and “at home” here. Beautiful and well-kept grounds and rare views. The only thing that diminished our stay was the news that the inn has been sold and will be closing in a month. Shame on the new owners for their apparent blindness or disregard for this gem. We would eagerly and affectionately return, but…
