“This is a wonderful thrift store. It has a large selection of things, at great prices, all while functioning as a deeply needed community resource. In addition, the staff is wonderfully kind, I mean truly good people. The lady who was manning the thrift store, Sandy, is incredibly sweet, while being very efficient and helpful. Whether she is a volunteer or an employee, I don't know, but, either way, she deserves recognition. Downstairs, in the community restaurant (all prices by suggested donation, no one turned away for inability to pay), the lady working the counter responded to my accidentally rude social awkwardness (sorry!) by giving me a cookie. Seriously. Most people just get annoyed, but she responded with kindness, and it was so appreciated. All of this is in addition to the wonderful resources they provide to the community. These are good people, and this organization deserves all the support ❤“

West Townshend Country Store Pizza • $

“My kids look forward to Friday night pizza and so do my spouse and I! Lots of locals come and gather here and the produce is great. Live music is always happening on Fridays and Tuesdays and that’s pretty great too. They started serving Ice cream and the front porch had been historically reconstructed with parts restored to their former glory. Such a good time every single week, it never gets old, even 8 years in.“

Scoops Ice Cream Ice Cream Shop • $
792 US-5 #1, Dummerston - 11.25 miles

“This is maybe my kids’ favorite spot in town. I can always drag them out of the house with promises of a cone and a round of mini golf — and oh hey, there’s a food truck so we have to eat an actual meal first! All the people who work here are so nice, and the scoops are HUGE. Like it’s probably not responsible to give a kid that much ice cream but whatever, they love it.The ice cream itself is nothing to write home about—it’s just Hershey’s, no fancy organic basil-chai-turmeric hand-churned gelato. If you want that there are plenty of other places in the area to find it, this is where you go to get a literal tub of something bright blue and cotton-candy-flavored, covered in sprinkles and precariously perched on a wafer cone, for $3.99. Factor in the food truck and the mini golf and that’s two solid hours of kids not whining or zonked out on screens. Win!“
