The food was good, the owner was extremely rude. My wife made reservations in advance and he was rude to her on the phone. We arrived on time for our reservation (he was rude), and the owner stuffed us in the bar though the main dining room had open tables. We stayed for one hour and twenty minutes and as we left, there were three tables open in the main dining room. We spoke to a local and they knew of his personality and blamed it on his New York heritage (I don't buy that, we know lots of nice New Yorkers). The night before we ate at American Flatbread. Great Experience! I'd strongly recommend doing that instead.

Very good, lovely spot, but the Ragu was sweet or just not very Italian tasting.

Great find for a home-cooked nosh! Limited, but interesting menu; good wines; strong drinks and an interesting proprietor. The very essence of a neighborhood bistro in tiny Waitsfield, Vermont. This is a small place, so make reservations!

Despite a rocky start because of the seating arrangements, 5 stars is well deserved. Our server found a wine to our liking, put in our entrées so we weren’t rushed thru our salad and brought our deliciously flavored dinner steaming hot. Wonderful service, quiet atmosphere and a memorable meal.

Called ahead and got the last reservation! Super friendly staff that cares about the food. Small menu but everything was amazing. Great little find and recommend for anyone in town.

Absolutely impeccable food! All of the food I had here was incredibly tasty. The meatballs here are easily the best I have ever had and the bolognese was amazing as well. The portions are also very generous. The restaurant has a great atmosphere as well. All in all, Peasant is a really great restaurant.

Excellent food, excellent service. I've been coming here for years and it's hands down the best restaurant in the valley.I had one bad experience where I had to cancel a res at the last minute. I felt extremely bad and asked the owner to take my cc# over the phone and charge $200 to cover any losses incurred by our cancellation. He aggressively rejected my offer and started questioning me about why I was cancelling at the last minute. I explained it was due to circumstances outside my control, and asked him to just charge my card whatever amount he thought was fair to remedy the situation. He again refused and scolded me for a few more seconds before hanging up.I totally get that it's frustrating to have a customer cancel a res but when they proactively offer to pay you for the meals they won't be eating, just take the money and move on. Or decline the offer and move on. Why beat someone up over a what is essentially a non-issue.

Great location on the river's edge near a historic covered bridge, in the quaint town of Waitsfield. Being here really captures that complete essence of the Vermont community experience. A friendly owner who is personally on hand to ensure great hospitality, and... the meals, just delightful and bursting with flavor. Worldly in origin but also bringing in little touches of the local goodness, as well. A truly exceptional destination dinner spot!

You won't find pages of options to choose from here, but you can count on a wonderful meal at prices that are quite moderate considering the quality. The wonderful bolognese is often singled out for praise, but everything on the short menu is worthy. Cocktails are prepared with care and don't leave without trying the poached prunes for desert (it took me years to try them, but now they're automatic). Everything about Peasant is welcoming ... the food, the ambiance and, most of all, the staff.

We tried to eat at this place last night and they turned us away due to requiring a reservation. So we mad a reservation for tonight and found ourselves in an emergency. During the emergency I still remembered to call and let them know we could not make it. The person answering the phone was extremely rude and hung up on me. When I called him back to confirm that we were not coming and to tell him how unprofessional it was to hang up on me, he began yelling at me and telling me that I had no idea how many people had already cancelled. He was not at all concerned that we had to cancel due to an emergency. I am not from this area but came to celebrate my daughters birthday and spend our hard earned money here. This was supposed to be her birthday dinner and it wasn’t bad enough that we can’t make it due to an emergency but to be treated so badly is disheartening.

Fortunate enough to gain a 5:30 reservation (at the bar), we arrived promptly at 5:23 and were greeted by Chris at the door. He showed us to "the best seats in the house" where we were settled in and welcomed by Griffin. Our surroundings were warm and comfortable and quickly becoming filled with folks who knew and loved Chris and his enterprise. We started with a glass of wine and, being Catholic and a Friday in Lent, we were limited for our dinner choices. Griffin suggested the salad of radicchio and anchovies....a gorgeously presented and delicious salad topped with a light vinaigrette. For entrees we chose the Risotto Milanese...lovely sagey and perfectly al dente; and the Rigatoni with Basil Pesto...garlicky and lovely made sans nuts but instead a toasted pumpkin seed. Truly delicious. Chris was a pleasure and ensured that he visited guests and checked in regularly. Griffin (our server) was a delight...so enjoyed our banter re: cars, geography, food and drink. A lovely experience....

I ate here way back in 2013 and it was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. It was the day after my sister's wedding and we were wandering around looking for a place to eat. The unassuming exterior of this place made the incredibly delicious food a delightful surprise. I've been meaning to go back ever since then but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Great food and drinks with a cozy atmosphere. This restaurant is set in a quant town with a lot of charm. The staff and who I assume was the owner, were extremely accommodating to our last-minute requests (dinner one night, drinks another). Truly great prices for the quality you receive. It is evident that they take pride in the meals they create and are eager to know how you enjoyed your experience. Great way to treat yourself after a long day of skiing at nearby Sugarbush or Mad River Glen. Can't wait to come back again!
