Exceptional dining experience. We had an early 5:30pm dinner with our 4 year old son and everything was wonderful. The small plates - Skate Cheeks and Rabbit pâté, the entrées - Hen of the Woods Tortelloni and Hanger Steak. It was the best meal. Maria took great care of us. Everything was perfection! Thank you!

This was the best fine dining meal I've ever had. I usually have some buyers regret at places like this, but I assure you Hen of the Wood is worth every penny. We had two small-plates, four entrees, and one dessert. All were phenomenal.

Spent an absolutely wonderful Valentine's Day dinner here with my girlfriend. The waitstaff could have been a little more attentive but the food is always top-notch!

Loved it!General review:Outstanding overall. I had the duck and hubby had the hanger steak. All cooked to perfection. We started with cheese and ham. Ended with dessert of ice cream and cake.My son had the duck tortellini and loved it. All past is made in house. All the food was superb!Service was amazing. Our server was polite, super knowledgeable and attentive.Atmosphere was great. Cozy but central location if your up skiing sugarbush, mad river or of course stowe. Stowe is just down the road.Gluten free review:Amazing! The menu changes often so there are no labels. But they could quickly tell me what is already GF. Server was on top of his allergy game.Everything is mostly cooked to order and easy to modify.I always appreciate a place that takes allergies seriously. Then when the food is this good and it's safe then I am just over the moon.Dietary restrictions: Was aware of allergy needs. Accommodations are easy for GF.

I’ve been trying to get reservations for a while and it was worth the wait- the food was amazing, service was great. Hen of the woods mushroom toast was wonderful- perfectly cooked poached egg, skate cheeks were crispy and flavorful-the peppers went together very well. For a main the tortellini was delicious. Highly recommend- great meal and atmosphere.

Incredible local culinary experience. So many local ingredients. Menus printed daily. Would recommend making a reservation if possible. And they did have hen of the wood mushrooms on the menu when we were there!Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten free options

Loved our experience here! We went for our anniversary and when we got to our table they had left a card on it for us saying “Happy Anniversary”. They also thanked us for choosing to spend our night there, but we really need to thank them! They made it so special. The food was so unique and delicious! The portions are on the smaller size, but they made up for it in flavor and how beautifully the food was plated. The rabbit liver (which I was nervous to try) was my favorite thing we ate! They also carry Hill Farmstead which is some of the best beer I’ve ever had. Most definitely worth the time to stop in and try their food!

I will start with the fact that the staff there are great. Each of the servers were very friendly, willing to help one another and never had a put out look when you asked them for something. They were a 5/5The food however, was a major disappointment.I had a, rather small, portion of Flank steak that was tasteless and cooked a bit chewy. Chewy, small...not a major issue but the taste was bland and disappointing. Topping it was a leafy, sopping mess of greens that were borderline inedible. Not sure how it goes out like that...I could have dabbed it with a napkin it was so drowned. The other guest had a white fish that was cooked perfectly but, again, was flavorless. I have had fish that "stood on its own" but this was also rather boring. The accompanying sides were also more than a little saturated, they didn't even finish it.The app was decent, it was a well cooked cacio e pepe that had a hint of pepper. It was fine, but I didnt go to Hen of the Wood for fine.Despite our experience up to that point, we asked for a dessert menu. Looking it over, the table next to us had delightful looking ice cream we thought on ordering. The shaking heads and the unfinished portions changed our minds. The atmosphere was not nearly as charming as the original location. A bit urban, industrial which I typically like but here, somehow it didn't work. The Burlington location pulled their look well but this location felt a bit stark and weirdly out of place. Last note on the atmosphere, the guy calling for hands/runners every 12 seconds was a bit much at his volume, but not a big deal.Ultimately, I don't think we will be returning to this Hen of the Wood. While in the past, it had something special to it, this place feels uninspired and common with food not up to the standard we are used to, or price for that matter. I will happily return to the Burlington location in the future, but there are too many quality options around Waterbury to justify returning here.
