Food seriously lacked that authentic asian msg or salt or that flavor! It was pretty bland to my taste. The hot and sour soup had no flavor, texture was missing and was not spicy even though on the menu it had a spice indicator. The HK crispy noodle was mushy and not crispy-burnt on the outside… plus it had no salty flavor… veggies were well cooked.. the tofu was boring and bland. The chilly flakes were also tasteless weirdly. The general tao was just Ok and the brocoli needed some garlic or flavor too. Service was good the staff is attentive and kind.

I’ve ordered the same thing at many Chinese Restaurants in the area. The teriyaki chicken at Mandarin was the best. But the price was by far the highest, portion by far smallest.

We had a disappointing experience with this restaurant when we ordered take out on Christmas Eve. They were extremely late with our order and when we did get the food it was lacking in flavor and the portions were very small for the price. They appeared understaffed that night and those who were working were quite rude.

We ordered food at 5:06 pm with a scheduled pickup time of 5:57 pm, but we received our food at 7:47 pm. While we were waiting, two other customers who had been waiting for their food left and told them to keep the money. The wait was long, and the food had no flavor, not even salt. We were from out of state, hoping for authentic Asian cuisine, but we were disappointed. Despite waiting for so long, we could not even eat the food. It's concerning to see that the locals tolerate this kind of service, as one customer mentioned that the same thing happened last year. It's irresponsible for the restaurant to continue taking orders when they don't have sufficient staff.

We’ve been doing takeout from Mandarin ever since Joyce’s closed in Essex. Initially the quality was consistent and very good. In the last couple of months that has not been the case. I had house lo mein that was mediocre, lacking any flavor. Last night I had the Szechuan eggplant and had the same experience, very little flavor. About a month ago, I also had the eggplant and it was great. Not sure what the problem is, but I’m not sure that I want to take another chance.

We use to love this place because the food has a depth of flavor and was always cooked correctly.we haven’t been in awhile probably, middle of the pandemic. We got take out (hot and sour soup, general toas wings, chicken friend rice and orange chicken), and was disappointed with the subpar food. The soup was watered down and lack much flavor. the General toas wings were not crunchy, but had good flavor. the chicken friend rice fried didn't looked fried and there were inedible cartilage pieces, but the tasted was okay. The orange chicken was not crunchy and very stringy, but were flavorful. Can’t not talk about atmosphere due to the meal being take out.Overall not impressed and will probably come back only if the other Chinese restaurants we like aren’t open or doing takeout.
