It saddens me to leave this review, I love our local community and supporting small businesses more than anything.
I have a service animal, and while I may not fit the expected appearance of someone who “needs” one, my dog is trained to perform specific acts for me as a disabled person, and we are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Today my husband and I were going to out for a date, excited to enjoy a local burger and a drink or two at Grand Avenue Ale House. We walked in, ready to show ID and order, and were told that they would not serve us because we had a dog. I promptly and concisely informed the staff that he is a service animal, protected by the ADA, and asked if they were refusing us service. I was told repeatedly “we don’t allow dogs” “we won’t serve you with a dog” etc.
I again calmly informed the staff that “my animal is trained to perform a specific task to assist me as a disabled person,” I was again refused service. I raised my voice so other patrons could hear and said “Just so I’m clear, you are refusing me service on the basis of my being accompanied by a service animal specifically trained to perform tasks for me as a disabled person, a violation of my rights as outlined in the ADA”
At which point another employee finally said something to the man speaking to, or more accurately ignoring, me and he turned around to let me know “my boss apparently just changed the rules.” We decided to spend our dollars elsewhere tonight where we would not be upset by ignorant, ill informed, cold staff and I might recommend you do the same.
We have reached out to the manager, as well as filed a complaint with the department of justice.

this place is crazy bc the bartender who’s like 45 with the ponytail is sooo rude and said “you have 10 minutes to order drinks” at 10:30 and they’re open til 2am. it’s 11:30 and someone just walked in and he’s making them a drink with a freaking shaker. sexist and racist.

A local staple, one of the old guards! Pootie and her crew always keep it fun, and the vibe is awesome! Brit was especially nice to me and my girlfriend while we sat at the bar!

The Grand is perfectly timeless, and while the days of $4 pitchers of micros have left us behind, the prices are still great, the bartenders are fantastic and everyone still knows your name (it's Norm).

We came in and the bar was relatively empty (9pm on a Friday). Poorly made drinks, bad attitudes from the staff. We left after a single game of pool. The people next to us left before they even finished their beer. There are so many great bars in the area, this place doesn't vibe.
What can I say? It's the best! Pootie is gem! Can't go wrong here in any way.
