Not busy and 30 minutes wait for 7 people? Maybe don’t lead with the 18% gratuity if you want to provide excellent service. Also best to show guests to a waiting area opposed to telling them not to wait in the entrance. Shockingly rude service, but that may be my white privilege speaking, as other members of our party pointed out that was pretty typical behavior for them to experience. We walked out and went to Lunas Bistro, much better vibe 😎

Have enjoyed the ambience at Scotty's for years and the service is always cheerful and efficient. The price of wine seems to have increased. Passable wines are limited at Scotty's but a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon at over $19.00 yesterday at the Barkley Village location was I thought excessive. A Gin ordered was drowned by Tonic and quite tasteless, perhaps because we didn't order a large one! I will be more careful when ordering drinks there next time. The choice of food is still quite good and reasonably priced but the table wine was pretty awful so the Cabernet was chosen as a replacement without checking the price first. There are many alternative bistros in Bellingham and as Washington State produces some good wines I think Scotty's can do better as a neighborhood pub. Being a Canadian Chain I am also rather surprised there is no Canadian Club on the drinks menu which I enjoy. However the efficient service standard at
this location is certainly above average for Bellingham...

Any dish with the blackened chicken I highly reccomend. The seasoning on the chicken is phenomenal and in my experience the chicken is thoroughly cooked but not at all dry. Espresso martinis are nice as well. Fully stocked bar (beer, wine, cocktails) and well-rounded menu (including happy hour options).
Only downside for me, I have a great personal dislike of the interior decorations. Feels corporate and stale. Photos of 1950's celebrities seem out of place and irrelevant to the community this restaurant is placed in.

Batenders we're good. Drink was yummy. Waitress once we were seated was very short, and not friendly. Food was yummy. Overall pretty expensive for the evening.

I’ve lived here for quite some time, and this place never really caught my attention, but I figured it was finally time to try it.
At first glance, it feels like a wannabe city-style restaurant. The aesthetic and attitude don’t really match the feeling or vibe of Bellingham. It reminded me more of something you’d see in Chicago than a local spot here.
One thing that stood out immediately was the lack of alignment between the restaurant’s expectations and reality. If you want a dress code, have a dress code. Don’t create an environment where people are made to feel like they don’t fit the ambience without actually setting clear expectations. My partner and I were dressed nicely, but I still felt like I misjudged where we should be sitting. That’s just an observation, but it affected the experience from the start.
I’m not someone who typically judges a restaurant based on staff alone, and I don’t believe service should completely outweigh food quality. That said, this is the first place where I can confidently say the staff alone would keep me from ever returning. The attitude felt rude and dismissive, as if being unkind was mistaken for status or professionalism. In reality, it just comes across as poor service. I’ve never encountered such consistently unpleasant behavior across an entire floor, and honestly, it was impressive in the worst way.
It’s a shame, because the food itself is quite good. But if I’m spending close to $100, I expect service that reflects that price point. Good food doesn’t excuse an uncomfortable or hostile atmosphere.
Maybe this kind of vibe works in bigger cities, but even that feels generous. I’ve eaten at Michelin-star restaurants where the service was far more welcoming, despite being far less formal than this place tries to be.
I think I understand the reviews now. The four stars aren’t for the food, they’re for the vibe. And that vibe just isn’t Bellingham. I’d genuinely rather sit at K2, eat El Pollo Feo, and actually enjoy the atmosphere than come back here.
It’s disappointing, because good food can be hard to find here. But no amount of good food is worth dealing with nasty people.

We arrived around 8:50 pm on a holiday night after seeing that the restaurant closes at 10:00 pm. We were greeted warmly and exchanged pleasantries, and it initially seemed like we would be seated. However, we were then told we could not be seated because last call was at 9:00 pm. It was disappointing to drive into town expecting another hour of dining, only to be turned away. This was especially confusing given the posted closing time and the fact that a large party was still dining. Clearer communication about holiday hours and last-call policies would help set better expectations for guests.
Great service and the food quality was excellent.

Love Scotty's, here almost weekly. The Southwest bowl is awesome! Staff can be slow, it depends on who you get. Usually pretty good though.

This is a really good place to eat. The service is always good and the people friendly. I really like the warm atmosphere and the fact that the place always feels new and clean. I like the variety that their menu offers without being so big that they can't make everything really well. Consistency is one of their best traits. We also like that it is really easy to find the nutrition facts about their food.
