Stopped in for espresso/breakfast while in town for work and I can’t speak highly enough of this gem. Shirlee talked about the building and sent me on a ghost hunt while she made my breakfast. Will be starting my days in Bellingham “giving the Bird” from now on. 11/10

Shirlee from Shirlee bird is a delight! She makes all her pastries from scratch. The breakfast burrito with bacon is awesome, especially for the price point! Coffee smells wonderful and she knows her way around an espresso machine. Her store front is very quaint, petite, and open. There is no indoor seating but there is a few spots outdoor and I believe there is also space inside the building for you to sit and enjoy your beverage/food. Dog friendly.

I can't begin to tell you how amazing the baked goods consistently are. I have had baked goods from almost every other business in the area, and to me, everywhere else ranges from acceptable to not good. Shirlee Bird is consistently the best thing i have eaten, no matter which pastry I choose.

Most recently, I tried the maple scone, which is bold because I often find scones dry and low in taste. I was so happy with the one I got from Shirlee; it was perfect. Just the right amount of moisture, and so freaking flavorful.

The lattes are always solid; never bitter, and made to order. I got plain lavender last time, and it was perfectly balanced so you could appreciate the coffee and the lavender. It's a small machine, compared to the typical coffee chains, so it takes a bit longer, but it tastes so much better than you can get at a chain.

If she ever makes a cookbook of the pastries, I will be first in line to buy it. I've been told I'm too picky about baked goods, but I dont know, maybe other people just havent had anything truly great before.

Always looking for good coffee when I travel. Happened upon this friendly cafe. It was a fortunate find. The barista/baker had just pulled out pastries, one of which was lemon filled, it went well with my perfectly made Americano. I sat in the indoor courtyard where it was quite and relaxing. I will definately visit again when in the area.
