The only reason I would ever eat here is if I’m stuck waiting for a ferry. The rooms are excessively LOUD due to most of the walls being covered by glass windows, glass mirrors, glass framed photos or glass, TV screens. Prof of this is the fact that the servers have to SHOUT to take your order and often ask you to repeat. Servers seem reluctant to engage with customers it’s so LOUD. It’s like having a meal in a bus station. What a shame! This place has clearly invested hugely in renovations and upgrades but seemingly never consulted a professional designer or they would know to instal sound absorptive materials. The entrance is also a very awkward bottle neck with a very narrow accessibility ramp being the only way in. This forces anyone wanting to enter or exit to stand there and wait for the next person to zig zag along the path. I’m shocked that this even meets egress requirements for building code. For the love of all that is good in this world, please add a set of steps along side the ramp! I realize most patrons won’t comment on these details. But these aren’t just minor design “touches”, these issues lead to poor service and an experience that would otherwise be quite nice to be marred so badly that I would only go to Callen‘s as a last resort.
Wheelchair accessibility: Very narrow and long zigzag accessibility ramp is the ONLY way to enter or exit. There are no stairs so if you use a wheelchair be prepared to wait for EVERY ableist patron to get in your way or squeeze by. Not cool. Steps are good for wheelchair users too! Because it keeps the ramp clear!!

I just spent $3.50 for a burnt chocolate chip cookie! As a long time Coupeville local, I have eaten here several times and each time I want to order something I liked before I find out it is no longer on the menu.
Horrible staff! We called and asked if they could accommodate a shellfish allergy. The employee said “yes of course come in we will keep a separate space during prep everything will be sanitized “… When we arrived we were turned away and told they could not serve me safely! We came to eat here with an hour and 15 min grace for the ferry. But now we are stuck waiting for the ferry with no food! Literally horrible experience!😞

Waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order but by that time we needed to go because it would take to long to get food or drinks. I’m sure it’s great but come on a day when they have more staffing.
Great location and service but we feel that the food quality has gone down over the years.

was having a great brunch with my 3 friends this morning and we did really enjoy the food. mid meal, a very entitled looking guy that seemed to be the owner or boss really threw off the vibe of brunch. every time our lovely server tried to come talk to us ladies, the boss kept scolding the server and it looked like she was just trying her best. we couldn’t help but notice this owner guy, he was unprofessional, stressed out, and he even looked unprofessional he was basically wearing lounge clothes. little advice to the owner, your customers should not feel like they’re in the middle of your disputes. thank you to our server she did what ever she could despite that.

Came for breakfast at 9:00 am. Waited 10 minutes to be seated in an empty dining room. We were served water and given menus. We walked out after waiting another 10 minutes. Server passed us as we were leaving and made a nasty comment. Wow!

Was very excited to try this restaurant as i've heard some great things. Just went there this weekend for dinner, and was very disappointed. When my boyfriend and I first arrived there we were asked if we had reservations, and I told the person at the front desk my boyfriend had called and was told we couldn't make any reservations for a party under 6 (which sounds strange), the women did apologize and let us know many other customers had said the same thing and let us know it would be a bit of a wait about 40 minutes or so depending on how fast people eat. I told her we would wait because we really did wanna give the restaurant a try. Well we waited at least over an hour to be seated, had time to go somewhere and come back and still had to wait. By the time we were seated the restaurant was not as busy as before (Valentine's Day Weekend), and there were only a few couples/families sitting at the other tables. Our server was nice, but after we ordered our drinks we weren't really checked on as consistently as the other tables. We did order a starter, the steamed mussels I believe, but it took them over an hour to get our starter to us and when they did it was only accompanied by 1 piece of bread. By this time we're very hungry and for the price the portion was quite smaller than we expected. We also noticed that a family who were seated right before us probably with around 5-6 people or so had already had their food and were asked if they wanted dessert. After we got the starter we still weren't checked on for another at least 30 minutes or so, and this time it had been over an hour and twenty minutes and we still had not received our food. I had to ask another employee there if they could ask the kitchen if our food was still on the way. Shortly after she asked our food came out. I ordered their beechers mac and cheese with the shrimp and my boyfriend had got their scallops that came with pasta. The mac and cheese was very much soup-like, and didn't have much flavor, and the shrimp was very very tiny. I believe it was the shrimp people put in their salads. My boyfriend's scallop pasta dish was underwhelming as well unfortunately. The pasta was very overcooked, covered in tomatoes for some reason, and unfortunately didn't have much flavor. We didn't end up finishing the dishes even though we were still hungry and for the prices we were disappointed the food did not come out better considering we waited almost two hours for the 3 dishes. We both agreed the muscles were best part, and while the front desk person and waiter were sweet. I would recommend the restaurant have someone checking on the table more often and make sure the food comes out in a more reasonable time. They could be short-staffed of course, but overall disappointed because the restaurant itself was a cute place and we were so excited to try it, just wished the food matched the ambiance.

Great spot, great views, nice looking restaurant. But I stood way too long waiting to be seated even though it wasn't busy. Barely luke warm coffee and the $14 breakfast is only eggs and potatoes. Want toast? Extra $3. Want bacon or sausage? Extra $5. Yes, it was good, but at $22, then $3.50 for the coffee for a $28 breakfast with taxes, it's not great value.

Unlike other rural restaurants, Callen’s isn’t as good as it was during the pandemic. Service is still friendly, when they finally decide to acknowledge you. Staff seem very absorbed with each other. Family business I guess? Pulled pork was decent but the coleslaw was legit rotten. Should have been thrown out days prior. Maybe it was an off day.

Waited 45 minutes for food. It was not that busy. I ordered the chicken fried steak. It was 3 oz max and accompanied by raw eggs. My wife ordered the avocado toast. The toast was wet, the onions were raw, and the "poached eggs" were still swimming in their water bath and raw.

We went there last year for their V-Day special. The waitress was awesome, please return to Toby's. The special was nothing that couldn't be found on the regular menu. While tasty, it was way overpriced and worse, we left hungry. Evidently, the owner gets butt hurt over a bad review and will block you on FB.

Extremely slow service…consistently. I’ve been to Callens several times and the food is quite good. However, the service has always been painfully slow and with no explanation. Twice though, ferry goers were given preferential treatment and although they arrived after my party they were served before us.
