This place is a true gem. From the incredibly thoughtful and expertly prepared food, to the genuine, warm and inviting servers. Treat yourself to a wonderful night. It's well worth it.

We had an incredible experience at Matia. They were very gracious to accommodate our dietary restrictions. We had the chef’s counter tasting menu, and we are still talking about each of the dishes. I would love to eat here again some day.

I feel sorta weird writing this review as MANY people told me to come to this restaurant that are very connected to the community here. After my experience, they all admitted they DO NOT go here anymore. I came here for a celebratory dinner with my wife and it honestly was one of the worst meals I have ever had at a seated restaurant. It was comically bad. The wine pairing was the best part of the meal (very phenomenal wine). We couldn't finish our mains. I'm a trash raccoon and could eat a burger off the sidewalk (but I also enjoy fine cuisine and have dined at many michelin starred and james beard awarded restaurants) but I couldn't finish this food. The person that took my coat before the meal disappeared by the end, leaving me to forage for my coat in the building. I honestly feel caddy AF to write this, but if you, the owners, are reading this, please hear that NO ONE I've spoken to on Orcas trust getting a good meal from you guys at your price point. Locals don't come here.

Excellent service, but the food was a little disappointing. We probably would not revisit.

This is possibly the most laughable restaurant I have ever visited. Dining here is like being the victim of an elaborate, cruel, and overpriced practical joke. The food was mostly terrible; the $58 black cod in particular was a rancid, abominable waste of what might have been a decent, albeit tiny, piece of fish. (We're talking maybe three bites here, folks.) The first course was literally potato chips with hummus. The service was a bit condescending, as you'd expect in a place such as this, but it was timely and attentive. However, every time they brought us the next course, they provided a remarkably smug little lecture about the local origins of the ingredients; it reminded me of a "Portlandia" skit I watched long ago, and it was quite hard not to laugh or ask the server what the shrimp's names were. The wine was OK, which is a good thing, because I needed it to suppress my rising irritation and urge to mock as the meal progressed. Not recommended.

Maybe we went on a particularly bad night but the servers seemed really annoyed by everything and everyone which was weird and uncomfortable. For how expensive the food was they should maybe pay the servers more so that they are nice and provide service that matches the quality of the food.

We had the tasting menu at the Chef’s Counter. The meal was absolutely superb. Very vegetable forward, but plenty of proteins (sable fish and pork courses). The gazpacho was just grand, huge depth of flavor.

A real highlight were the wine pairings, especially an Oregon Pinot Meunier with a tomato course that was just magic and a Mosel with the pork belly.

Highly recommend!

Loved our experience here - didn't have reservations, but walked into the lounge which offers a very similar menu in a more casual yet chic bar setting. Loved the sockeye salmon crudo, cacio e pepe fritta, mussel escabeche toast (I'm not even a mussel lover and this blew my mind)... and they were even kind enough to let us order the local ling cod from the restaurant itself. Would love to come back and try the chef's menu next time!

An experience to remember! We arrived 45 minutes late due to our ferry's delay, we were greeted by Spencer, who immediately created a calm and relaxed atmosphere that helped dissolve my anxiety from our untimely arrival. Avery and his team created mind-blowing samples for our pre-fixe Chef's counter dinner. Spenc, the wine Spencer, was bringing my husband delicious wines and sharing great conversation regarding the different wines and more. I enjoyed their non-alcoholic beverages that were blissfully tasteful. Our dinner featured a majority of locally sourced greens and proteins and exposed us to new delectables such as sunchokes and celery root! Avery's kitchen prowess shines, his passion is evident in each dish, and the team shares such a positive dynamic and leaves us feeling like close friends.

The atmosphere is relaxing with low light and quiet music you can easily converse over. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. The kitchen was clean, and the restaurant as a whole presents fine dining, with a welcoming casual atmosphere. The perfect balance of high-end and comfort.

Dietary restrictions: Easily catered to my restricted diet die to pregnancy.

We had such a fun dining experience at Matia Kitchen. The rhubarb gazpacho stole the show and the staff were super helpful, friendly, and bright. I'd go just to hang out with the staff and have a drink with them! We did not get a chance to hang out at the bar named Monti but would love to check it out next time we're in town. It looked deep, dark and moody with clean lines and a sense of modern charm and elegance compared to the kitchen which had more of beach house/ dining hall light and airy feel with all the windows. Can't wait to go back!

A must eat when on Orcas Island.
Stellar food largely from locally sourced ingredients. Wines were also very well selected, interesting, and delicious.
