I wanted to check out Monti, the small-plate cafe and bar attached to Matia’s. I ordered a bourbon and appetizer at the bar. The drink came in a somewhat smallish tapered glass with an ice cube so large it was out of proportion to the glass. It took up about 80% of the volume and reached the top of the glass. The combo of a short pour and oversized ice cube made it hard to drink as the ice slipped out of the glass when tilted for a sip.The app arrived, a precious serving on a small plate. Although diminutive given the price, the few, tasty bites showed skill in the kitchen.While at the bar, the person next to me ordered a Negroni. The drink set in front of them looked nothing like a Negroni. When asked about the pale, somewhat colorless drink, the bar person said it was Monti’s interpretation of the Negroni. The patron was obviously not impressed by the interpretation. What was served was a non-groni - no CampariAs I watched from my perch, it became apparent — the smaller glassware, the overly large ice cubes, the short pours, their “interpretations” of classic cocktails — added up to intentional deception. A pricey contrivance to minimize pours and maximizing profits. Go to Matia’s if you have a few hundred dollars to spend on dinner and a bottle of wine, but if you want something resembling a real honest cocktail, go across the street to the Barnacle.

We had the best meal we’ve had in a long time at Monti. We are on the island celebrating my wife’s birthday and this was the perfect meal. The pommes panisse was insane. The paparadelle was so good. The N.A. cocktails were phenomenal. Definitely worth your time and money to have this truly special dining experience.

The staff was so delightful. We had two servers, both Saras, and they were incredible in their own ways. They made our anniversary dinner truly special. The food was delicious. We especially loved the rigatoni lamb ragu and the cod croquettes. The design of the space elevates the whole experience to the next level. I highly recommend dining here!
