In a town with limited eateries on a Sunday in late October we used TA reviews and ended up here. A tavern for sure with many tv’s for sports..no problem. No one greeted us at the door..that’s fine we seated ourselves. It took the server 5-10 minutes to get to our table; it wasn’t extremely busy but she was on her own. Friendly and attentive after she took our order. The negative for us were the patrons, 6 at one table, there to enjoy a get together. Extremely loud and rowdy, not watching any sports but making it difficult for others to carry on a conversation and one other party left shortly after sitting down. Food was ok, salmon burger, hamburger, dry coleslaw. Just our experience.

Wonderful feel to the place. I'm 81, just moved on-Island. Wife asleep from COVID vaccine reaction. No food in the house (recently moved here). Had seen their ads about "best hamburger on Orcas" and -- at 8:45p -- decided, "Why not?" Great decision. Absolutely cooked medium rare. Wonderful waitress -- very easy-going. Likely to become a regular dinner place for us. Highly recommend.

I always enjoy a good local hangout. Nothing fancy about the place. Just a fun place to get a good fresh meal, some good beer, friendly service.

Stopped in for lunch with friends after an acquaintance raved about this place. It was not a busy time, there were a few other tables in the dining room. Ordered 2 burgers, 1 fish and chips, 1 Impossible burger. They were delivered in a timely fashion. The fish was completely overcooked which was apparent when served, but our friend ate it anyway. The burgers were just okay (I hope that they are not the best on the island, as advertised!) but the Impossible burger had been steamed from frozen, not browned and not cooked all of the way through, so it sat weeping liquid onto the bottom bun. The server never did a check on us but she had plenty of time to drink a beer with the other server while scrolling through her phone. She only came back to remove the empty baskets, and mine with a 1/3 eaten Impossible Burger. I then told her that the burger was undercooked and she apologized. I paid $17 for some fries as she did not adjust the bill or offer a refire. Generally I will not leave a negative review because everyone is trying to make a living, but they probably figured we were tourists and wouldn’t be back anyway so I am leaving the review to advise other visitors.

In a lot of towns you pass local pubs like this and think, meh, it's a tavern, let's look for something else. But towns need their taverns, and Eastsound is lucky to have The Lower! There is an obvious pride in ownership going on here. Clean, comfy and warm interior, supremely friendly and welcoming staff, a really wide selection of beers and wines that ain't common in most pubs, and filled with a great local energy - you can tell that this is a regular gathering place for the community. We were there on an Open Mic Tuesday, which added to the charm and fun. Outstanding burgers (the only food we tried on this visit) and reasonable prices. Just enjoy it.
