I Lived in Central America for a decade & am very familiar with/ order ceviche anywhere I see it on a menu but I’d never been served fully translucent slabs of fish which smelled like the inside of a tackle box and were too rubbery/ slimy to bite through before. Unique take on ceviche, but not to my taste.

This place surprises me every time. Really fresh ingredients and unique dishes that always tastes delicious! I really enjoy their tacos - their corn tortillas and cheese are made fresh in the kitchen!

I recommend checking this place out!

The masa tortillas were good but the side of weirdly rude service means I won’t go back. Also, the beef was underseasoned and dry.

I stopped by as they opened on a Saturday and was very impressed. Very nice patio setup that faces the sidewalk so it's great people watching while eating. The food was very good with nice large portions. The menu is a bit limited, but all of their ingredients are local and fresh so it's a nice quality vs quantity situation. Great vegan options too

A small and delightful gem in Edmonds! The flavors are amazing, the food is so fresh, and the service is friendly. Recently had a ling cod and bean taco- perfect portions and very reasonably priced. The beverage menu looked impressive as well. Highly recommend!

Got to meet both the owners while sitting at the bar. Drinking salty chihuahuas and making new friends.

Maize and Barley is a local gem. The food is farm to table and everything is made in house. I’ve been coming here regularly for the last few years and take anyone who is visiting me by for their seasonal menu.

Wouldn’t let my kids sit at an outdoor table with me to eat their ice cream from next door while I drank a beer. It was early afternoon and the place was otherwise empty. Hostess was remarkably rude about it and bluntly told my 8 & 10 year olds to sit next door. No other place in Edmonds would chastise a family for kids eating their ice cream outside.

What difference does it make if I drink a beer at an outdoor table alone or if my kids sit with me? I totally get not bringing in outside food, but this was ridiculous. They don't even have kid friendly dessert on the menu (unless your kid likes pumpkin custard). Kids eating ice cream has zero effect on their food sales. If anything, not allowing it hurts their sales, as no parent can actually go there and order food/drink. Being next to a froyo place is the perfect setup for both kids & adults to enjoy themselves, but for some reason they've chosen to shoot themselves in the foot.

Let's be real, I would've let this go if they were at least a little bit nice about it. Any semblance of decency and I would've just gone on with my day. But they weren't, and while my kids will continue getting their ice cream next door, my wife and I will be eating & drinking just down the street where we won't be rudely treated.

Food was good. It's extremely small space. You're required to come up to the bar place your order and pay. It was just a little awkward with a party of five first sitting at take reviewing the menu then all standing at the bar to each order our drinks and then sitting back down at our table.

We walked in and immediately felt unwelcome. We had two littles with us. The lady behind the counter was visibly annoyed that we had kids with us. When we sat down my son touched a plastic sign on the table that said “group seating” and she came over and snatched it out of his hand. I wanted to leave after that, however my husband had already ordered a drink. The drink sat at the counter ready and she gave us attitude that we didn’t know we had to get up and get it. We asked if they had arepas because that’s what previous reviews said and she snapped at us again. I was so uncomfortable that we left as soon as my husband finished his drink. I really try to find the best in situations, but this was just so rude. We walked down to Calypso, which was amazing and very kid friendly.

This was our first visit. So we needed a few minutes to read the menu board's. No one was behind us and we told the lady behind the counter we needed a minute, she was very impatient and had a hard time trying not to show it. In her defense it was a beautiful Saturday and there had been a protest in town, so they had probably been busy before our arrival. My daughter ordered 2 vegetarian taco's, I got the BBQ pork taco and we both had a hard cider. The food was okay small portions and on the bland side.
