This is a classic KBBQ spot of Federal Way for over 15 years. It’s a solid solid spot that hasn’t disappointed or changed in over a decade. I love Shin Sung and hope it stays how it is forever

Walked in and there were a couple of scattered tables here and there and no Korean people there. Oh oh I thought, but was visiting my in-laws from out of town and they suggested this place. No disrespect for Korean or non-Korean folks but the people that know their own food best is the people of that culture. We decided on the $120 set menu which included kalbi, seafood pancake, grilled mackerel, spicy pork, spicy squid, steamed egg, tofu soup and assorted banchan. Food quality was a C. Nothing to write home about. Asked for the check and noticed they tacked on 18% tip? They circled the total and tip(see pic). There were 4 of us so it wasn’t a big party and their service was average. Why 18%? On any other day and place I would have disputed the 18% tip but we just landed in Seattle and haven’t seen my in-laws since prior to Covid. Gave them my credit card, they came back with the receipt and I wrote 0 for tip. Upon leaving the waitress chased us out asking for a tip! What? You want a double tip? So we went back and forth until she relented, and said she made a mistake. How is that possible? It’s a set menu for $120, the total bill was almost $160. Do the math. Taxes are not $40. Take your money somewhere else for better food at a better price with better service.
Place got better. Very up and down in the many years I've been coming here but right now its pretty good.
I tried to come by and eat by myself and do the all I can eat with different meats for $40 but the manager said I had to have 2 people. Doesn't make sense to me as the restaurant was almost empty. I would have to order only 1 type of meat for around $50 and they didn't offer any meat combo sets. I asked the nice waitress to please ask the manager or owner again. They said no. I just decided to walk out and leave all together.
Loved the meat, especially the sides. Very delicious, and really good service! I would definitely come back again and I would recommend!
I rarely leave reviews but felt it was necessary due to the attitude and service we received. My family and I walked into this establishment on a Saturday afternoon, they were not busy. The host took her time asking if we needed a table then proceeded to take us to the very back table, near the kitchen, where they were prepping food. We had a party of 5, including 2 kids. There were plenty of tables open to accommodate us. There were only 4 tables occupied at the time. We ended up leaving as we felt very unwelcome there as an ethnically diverse family. While exiting we passed by the host and she said nothing to us as we left. Needless to say, we will not return to this place ever again. We went across the street to Palace Korean Bar and Grill and had the best experience and service.

Shin Sung Korean BBQ is another great affordable Korean BBQ spot. The place is located close to the unfinished Federal Way train station. $29.99 for all you can eat is a steal deal, especially when it includes rice, vegetables, and even soup. The nice lady that was serving us was very nice, she always checked up on us and also kept the food coming. If I wasn't cooking and eating, she'd come by and cook and also check if everything was good and if we needed anything else. She made sure that our table was stocked up on all the delicious sides, rice, and meats. If you are in the Federal Way area give Shin Sung a try. This is my second time trying out the location and they have not let me or my friend down.

If you say you're open till 22:00 and turning away hungry customers at 21:28, it means you don't know or want to do business.
Don't go there. This place gives you a feeling they are just there for their own and not for serving customers! Shameful!

It was a decent all you can eat kbbq. Side dishes and soybean paste stew were disappointing. However, if you want meat for a decent price, I would recommend this place. The service was okay as well.
