I really wanted to love this place. I spent about $45 on wings and oxtail stew. The wings were actually good — no complaints there.

However, the oxtail stew was extremely disappointing. I’m from the South, and this was not it. The plate was mostly rice, potatoes, and oxtail bones — I didn’t get a single piece of actual oxtail meat. Charging that price for essentially bones feels misleading.

In today’s economy, $45 is a lot of money. As a Black woman, I make an effort to support Black-owned businesses, but taking care of your customers matters — especially when you’re charging premium prices. I hope this is taken as constructive feedback, because the quality should match the cost.

I’m a semi truck driver who was born in the south & raised in the south, I gotta give these people a 10. As we say back home, man this food BUSSIN‼️ I ordered off DoorDash and was kinda reluctant to do so because of the $105 steep price for some oxtails, collard greens, Mac n cheese, cornbread, banana pudding and some kool aid. Back home this a $25 meal easily ‼️ However wanted to see was it worth anything close to the price and man it’s GOOD‼️ Next time I’m in the area I’ll just put a suit on and catch a uber and go dine in (just kidding). But overall the portions were huge and the food taste great. Will definitely eat here again 💯

5 out of 5 - fantastic southern dishes with a warm and welcoming staff. I highly recommend all of the sides (the candied yams were fantastic) but the catfish was what will have me returning!

Simply the best! We drive up from Olympia for the catfish. You can’t get food this good anywhere else.

A couple of months ago, my coworkers treated me to lunch here for my birthday, and it was such a great experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious, and they offered a lunch deal that was genuinely reasonable.

I ordered the catfish with a side of mac & cheese, and it was amazing. The flavors reminded me of authentic Southern cooking. rich, comforting, and made with real care.

What truly made the experience stand out was the owner. She took the time to personally greet me and my coworkers, shared the history of the restaurant, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. Her warm, personable energy added so much to our visit. She even surprised me with a courtesy dessert for my birthday, which was incredibly thoughtful.

Overall, this spot exceeded my expectations in every way. Amazing food, wonderful service, and a personal touch you don’t find everywhere. Highly recommended!

The food and hospitality are mythical! Not only are you served some of the best southern food of your life...or if you are from the south...food that you remember and long for...you are also treated to the stories of where this food and these recipes come from. I tried the cat fish, the pork chops, the chicken, the collard greens, the green beans, the sweet potatoes, the mac and cheese and ox tail stew...oh...and the corn bread...and the potato salad...do you see a theme? Wow...I highly and enthusiastically recommend!

Nana’s Southern Kitchen – Review

👍 What works:
- Many guests praise the authentic Southern‑style fare and warm hospitality. One review said “Amazing!!! … absolutely love that!” for the food and service. [1]
- Clean, welcoming atmosphere. Some diners highlighted the friendly greeting at the door, well‑laid‑out tables, and a comfortable setting. [2]
- Key dishes get consistent strong feedback — for example, the pork chops and shrimp, as well as the seafood options, were described as “very good … tasty.” [3]

⚠ What to watch:
- A few customers noted occasional inconsistencies — for example, one reviewer felt the “catfish nuggets … were cooked too long and there was more breading than fish.” [4]
- The pricing is noted by a reviewer to be “a little pricey for soul food”… which suggests expectations of value should be tempered. [3]

🎯 Overall impression:
If you’re craving good Southern‑style comfort food in Kent, Nana’s Southern Kitchen is a very solid choice. The ambiance is warm and down‑to‑earth, service is friendly, and many dishes stand out for flavor and quality. That said, for best experience:
- Stick with highly praised items (like the shrimp or pork chops) unless you’re ready to experiment.

Honestly didn’t think 4 chicken wings would fill me up as much as these did, they were MASSIVE. Super fresh, well seasoned and fried, really great. The baked mac was to die for, and the potato salad was some of the best I’ve had out west. Will be going back for sure!

My friend and I ordered the fried shrimp, porkchops, and both had greens and Mac. I also got the banana pudding. The food wasn't bad, it just could have used more seasoning, also the banana pudding had no bananas in it at all. The grape kool-aid was delicious though.
