I've been a fan of Shalimar forever since I was little. I have known the wonderful family and generation of owners. Uncle's recipe of Jaipuri has forever been my most cherished and when I had first heard Shalimar was closed I was heartbroken. But I'm so happy that Chef Shalimar is here with the same Jaipuri I've missed and also some amazingly new flavors and menu options!! The Nihari is great and the Seekh Kababs are enjoyable as well. If you haven't gone yet and tried the Jaipuri though I'm writing this review for you. You're not gonna find that anywhere else but here in the world! Don't miss out on it!! As I'm writing this I realize I need to eat Jaipuri again soon... already craving it haha. Highly recommend! :)

It all started with an ad popping up on my FB feed, showing delicious looking Halwa Puri for brunch. To give a little context, Halwa Puri and chhole is the de-facto elite breakfast of northern parts of India and Pakistan - consisting of a fried bread (puri), chickpea curry (chhole) and a dessert made of Semolina and ghee with sugar syrup (halwa). Me and wife had been having conversation about puri chhole the day before and this ad seemed like god send. I hadn't heard of Shalimar before, so I read from the website and found that its a new place in Kirkland run by Pakistani chef with a great history and they do weekend specials. Excited, I called and ordered 2 halwa puris along with 2 extra puris. In my mind, the puris were going to be small (based on pics I saw in the ad), but they turned out to be really huge and we had to store the extra ones for later.portion wise, it was ana amazing deal. Great amount of halwa, adequate chhole and 2 large puris for $10 is unbeatable deal. So why is my review at 3-stars? We were terribly disappointed with the flavoring on chhole and the puris were crunchier than they should be, with some edges slightly burnt! I was especially disappointed with chhole as it lacked seasoning and flavoring. The puris were disappointing in terms of being crunchier then it should be - we hate puris which are browned to the point that they become very crunchy, and puris were just on the brink of being burnt. When I think sub-continental food, its all about those spices and flavors - but the chhole was very bland. Halwa on the other hand was excellent, reminded me of back home. Just the right amount of sweetness, and not very greasy (normally people go overboard with ghee on halwa, ending in greasy halwa with ghee dripping from all around). This is how Halwa is supposed to be, absolutely perfect. Overall, it was more like 3.5 stars, but I am going with 3, rather than a 4, as the chhole really was bland! I am hoping to give them another chance with one of their curry specialities and naan. Will definitely update my review based on how they turn out - until then, I will keep it at 3 stars!

Very impressed! I went in because all other restaurants in the area were closed on Sunday. My expectations were low and I was hungry. The hostess was very friendly and apologetic that they just opened recently and only had mostly a burger menu, but it's an extensive gourmet burger menu. I chose the salmon burger and again, didn't have high hopes. I was very Impressed. It wasn't a salmon burger, but instead a very thick and generous filet on a quality long bun. The salmon was cooked perfectly with a matching spice and with a nice presentation. I look forward to trying their other burgers soon. Oh, and they are all priced at $12, which is very reasonable and in fact cheap for Seattle pricing....

Starting off by saying that this place is definitely one of the best. I have gone to too many Indian resteraunts only to meet with the same quality and flavor. Sure it may taste different place by place but this is on a different level. The jaipuri and the quality of the food the chef serves makes it stands out amongst the other places in washington and thats a fact. Definitely gonna make this my go to.
