It's hard to find a birthday cake when you have a dietary restriction. I've tried a number of gluten-free bakeries in the Seattle area, but Sweet Cakes was the first bakery that truly impressed me with the quality of its gluten-free offerings (and that's despite not being an exclusively gluten-free operation, which is saying something). Other places try to hit multiple markets by making all of their baked goods gluten-free AND vegan, and sometimes soy-free, nut-free, etc. on top of that. I'm glad those options are available for those who need them, but when those are the only options offered, I tend to steer clear. I'm only avoiding wheat, so I prefer to still enjoy the flavor from ingredients like milk and eggs whenever possible. (But for those of you who ARE gluten-free AND vegan, don't worry--Sweet Cakes has you covered, too.) Their customer service is also top-notch. They usually ask for 2 to 3 weeks notice for custom cakes, but when my husband's plan for my birthday cake from another bakery fell through at the last minute, I had to place an order with only a week's notice. I explained that I didn't need anything fancy. I just wanted to HAVE a cake for my birthday. They were very understanding and whipped up a delicious pink champagne cake with raspberry filling on short notice. Now I go back to them every year!

Food: tried a tart and a cupcake. Tart filling was very good, but the outer shell was hard, worse than a grocery store tart. Cupcake was way too sugary.Service: service was polite and done with a smile and we appreciated that.Price: pretty expensive for the food quality and they tack on some convenience charges.Hope the taste gets better - I do want to support our local bakeries.

We used to order a 4" cake for our birthdays every year. The cakes taste good, but I'm done with them. I recently ordered the cake online, and paid. I got a call from the shop a day or so later to tell me that the cake was now $35 rather than the $24 that was posted on the website, and that I paid. Did I want to continue at the higher price? No! They cancelled the purchase. I feel the shop should've honored the purchase that I had already made and paid for, not called to ask for more money. (At least they checked ahead, and didn't spring it on my when I arrived to pick up the cake.)

Dena and team made the most amazing wedding cake for us. Coconut cake with passion fruit curd. It was to die for! And guests told us they had 3 pieces and are still talking about how delicious it was! Thanks Sweet Cakes!
I've ordered cakes from Sweet Cakes twice now, and both times everything has been fantastic - great communication, friendly service, reasonable pricing, and delicious cake. My daughter had a very specific request for her birthday: chocolate cake with salted caramel filling and frosting. Luckily, I knew just who to call.

1 start review is associated with wasting my time driving here with a toddler on a Sunday at 1pm when Google said store is open and people are working inside but the bakery is CLOSED. Have decency, if you have a big order and you need to stay closed update your Google profile so people like me don't drive for 15 min to get there...

They have both gluten free and "normal" baked goods here but take care to not cross contaminate. Their treats are delicious and I never have gotten sick. They even did our gluten free wedding cake over a decade ago.
