Zoq – Kirkland, WA
I went to zoq today a Pakistani restaurant in Kirkland. I was really looking forward to it as a Pakistani myself but it turned out disappointing.
The Chapli Kabab was good in taste but that’s about the only positive. I ordered tea and kheer as well and you know what, the tea tasted strange almost like someone just boiled cardamom in water without any milk or balance and the kheer was sour instead of sweet which completely ruined it :(
The service was poor the staff seemed unprepared and even the owner didn’t check in to ask how the food was. That lack of attention says a lot about how they manage customer experience. Disappointing!
If you’re in the area and craving good South Asian food I’d suggest trying Afghan Cuisine and Kabab House they’re love, just a few steps away on the same street and much better quality and hospitality.

Went there today for team lunch and had the best food in town. Loved the place and owner was very welcoming. Food was great and I cannot wait to go back with my family.

Mediocre food and very slow, inexperienced service. Felt like the staff wasn’t prepared, and the whole dining experience was disappointing.
Edit: Restaurant asks for proof of visit. Its weird. I have one. Should I upload here?

Amazing food at Zoq Cuisine in Kirkland! The Karachi Dum Biryani was rich and full of flavor, and the Punjabi Yakhni Pulao was perfectly cooked and aromatic. Friendly staff, and authentic South Asian taste right in downtown Kirkland! 🌶️🍛✨

If I could give it less than one star I would. The food and service was worse. I would not recommend anyone this place. Food even didn't seem fresh. Not going there.

Highly disappointed. Below average experience.
1. Wait time is too much. Around 1hour 15min for dishes that shouldnt take more than 30min.
2. High wait time also means cold food. 3 out of the 4 items we ordered were cold.
3. We ordered the Lahori Karahi and it was bang average. No unique taste. Honestly, we could have cooked it better in under 30min. How can someone go wrong with Chicken Karahi?
4. The Malai boti were undercooked and pink from the inside. Unacceptable.
5. The Tawa chicken was unauthentic. Like a coat of spices on top of chicken.
6. On top of it all, it costed us around 170 for 4 people. Insane prices for such a quality of food.
Would never visit again. Would never recommend this to anyone too.

I was super excited to come across a Pakistani place with names that felt extremely similar to home and the nostalgia kicked in hard.
We over ordered for two people so we could try more than 1 thing and I was kind of underwhelmed with the whole experience. The food is decent at best and pretty overpriced for what is served.
Gol Gappay - The ratio of puris to pani served is extremely off, almost every table had more than half that glass leftover, which I’m assuming is thrown every time. The pani itself was pretty sweet I felt, with extra sweet chutney, which I think could be tangier.
Paneer Karahi - Being a vegetarian, this was something I was most excited about. The half serving at $34.99 already felt overpriced but the what came of the dish, it felt undeserving. The masala was pretty raw and it felt more like a bunch of paneer cubes stir fried with raw onions, what seemed like canned tomatoes as they were so hard and peppers instead of a good cooked karahi what it should have been.
Lahori Channey - Definitely the best thing we ordered which lived up to its name and taste.
Naans - Roghni naan is different than the iconic one from back home but was a decent pass, garlic naan was as great as it could be.
Would I come back? Probably for the channey only.
It was a decent stop if you’re in the neighborhood but I probably wouldn’t drive around for as you aren’t missing out on much. At $80 for two vegetarian mains and an appetizer at a desi spot, I think the place can do better.

Restaurantji Recommends
Excellent food! Great to see a new restaurant in the area and everything we had from the bread and rice to the goat and chicken dishes was done so so so well. Really rich dense dishes, very professionally cooked and so worth it.

Updated review after eating at the restaurant:
Disappointed in the overall experience, we gave it another try and this time it was open, there were 2 people eating at another table and they were almost done so we were practically the only people there, ordered 4 main dishes, service was slow but thats okay given new establishment, however they forgot to make one main dish, and the other three along with Naans were already cold. Nihari was a big let down. Average taste and presentation of food, malai boti was good and the best thing on Menu was Falooda in deserts.
Will I drive an hour to dine in here? No
Will I eat here if I am in the neighbourhood, probably yes and will try their signature dishes ( like shinwari karahi etc)
I would hope they would improve their service and quality over time as we need good halal resturants.

When you’re looking for a charming place to enjoy out of this world food this is your place. The owner and staff are lovely and they prepare their food to perfection. When you’re in Kirkland, this is a go to spot for mediterranean food and experience.

The most menu options ever seen, especially for a Pakistani restaurant. My wife went for a benchmark dish not on the menu - in an authentic Halwa Puri. I experimented with the Pakinese (Pakistani-Chinese) fried rice with chicken. Both were delicious. A classy and cosy place to spend time; family run. My favorite Pakistani restaurant.
