Great classic diner food. I typically get the chicken fried steak. Not as massive as it used to be but still a huge meal.

From the moment I stepped inside with my buddy, I was greeted by decor that-- to others-- would associate with the 70's or 80's. I had stepped into a small diner and was greeted by a military statue wearing a mask. An American flag was hanging on a wall to my front with an MIA poster to my left. Obviously pro-military.We waited around 10-15 minutes for the waitress to notice us-- not a bad thing considering her working for both the bar and grill areas. After ordering, and wiping away crumbs from the previous customer, I engaged in conversation with my friend. We were able to talk in this warm, friendly environment-- surrounded by other friendly people. After around 25 total minutes of wait time, our food arrived. I had ordered the patty Swiss melt with their special corn and chicken soup($16). My friend ordered a feast of a breakfast-- all for around $25. The presentation was superb! The plating of my food and my friend's was amazing. It looked like it was something that could've been straight out of a restaurant.Although I can't talk for what my friend ate, I was disappointed by the dry, unseasoned burger that was served on my patty melt. To confirm my suspicions, I proceeded to cut into the burger-- dry. Not even the thousand island dressing and onions could save it from judgement. Upon asking about the burgers, they are made fresh-- to which I have to ask as to why they don't season their beef. It's regrettable that any dish have to suffer from no seasoning.I turned to the soup and was immediately overwhelmed by the flavor and spice. So much love was put into the soup, that I had to note it in my phone. From what I've gathered, all of the soups are made by hand, fresh every day. That is seriously commendable. Soups are one of the longest dishes to make, and with such skill as well.In short, I hope that the grill learns from it's mistakes and blossoms into an amazing eats.

This place doesn't look like much, but it had okay food. Our server was Ariel and she was super cool and on it. Would definitely come back. 5 stars for service, 4 stars for food.

I like to judge a good breakfast place by there corned beef hash! Because most places like to open a can that has diced potatoes and serve it with more potatoes? Never understood that! But this place! The best! Chunks of corned beef with peppers and onions! The right way to make it! Served with potatoes and topped with your choice of eggs! Plus hollandaise on top! Makes it even better! This is my favorite spot for breakfast! Everytime i visit! I'll be back!

Every time I have to go to Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC), I am at Gertie's for breakfast whatever time of day it is! It is just great diner food! Breakfast is served all day and the chicken fried steak is one of the best in the South Puget Sound. The eggs are cooked perfectly nigh every time The service is always wonderful and caring; and the coffee pot never runs dry! The horse racing pictures are fun and you can definitely see the support they have for our soldiers and sailors! The decor has probably not changed since the '80s, but that's part of the ambiance. (Gordon Ramsay would have a Hay Day, I'm sure!)Even though the overpass directly out of the post gate has changed into an interesting twisty-something-or-other, it's still pretty much a straight (but curved) shot directly to Gertie's parking and wonderful food.

Worst experience in my life. Food was disgusting... hot wings tasted like dry cardboard and were plains took us over 30 mins to get a refill on our drinks. Burger was nasty. Pancakes looked good but had no taste. No military discount and you are right off base.... I repeat never go here!

I'm going to start this review off with admitting that I have had a very bad day so far. I love galloping Gertie's food. Their fries are to-die-for, and their burgers always hit the spot. However, when someone asks for extra ketchup on the side, please do not tell them you put extra in the bags and that there is ketchup inside the boxes as well. I left the restaurant without checking my food, which is my fault. When I finally did eat the food, I realize that there was exactly two packets of ketchup for two burgers and fries. I don't know anyone who would use only one packet of ketchup for their burger and their fries. I'm sorry for venting. The good news is even with just mustard their burgers are good, and their fries can be eaten by themselves and still be enjoyable.

During a weekend getaway decided and the restaurants opening first the first time from COVID 19, we decided to support the locals, we called ahead and asked if they were open and that we had 10 people, they responded yes and we look forward to seeing you. We arrived to tables ready with water and menus. The food are awesome and the servings were huge! Very friendly and thankful for our presence!
