Whenever I want to go for a ride, I ride down there for lunch. But not on Thursday! (CLOSED). Absolutely the best calamari I've ever had, oysters are also extremely good. Everything I've eaten in there is fabulous. Same goes for the owner, beautiful personality.

My husband and I visited Drop Anchor on 9/19/25 for our 33rd anniversary. After an initial 20 minute wait to be seated (which was fine) we had another 10 minute wait before our waitress even acknowledged us. Once she took our order it took ANOTHER 45 minutes to get our food. Once the food came we were definitely disappointed in portion sizes. I paid $24 for what was supposed to be an 8 ounce medium rare steak what I got was a 4inch by 4 inch piece of very bloody & bland shoe leather. The toast tasted like it had sat in garlic oil (not butter) for a week. Literally the only thing good about this meal was the baked potato & the beverage. My husband ordered the fish (salmon) & chips along with sautéed mushrooms. He said his fish was very dry & over cooked. He did like the mushrooms though he wished they had been whole not sliced. It was a VERY disappointing end for our anniversary and we will not be back.

If you like clam chowder with milk and diced clams that's it and Luke warm. Then this is the place for you. The calamari was soggy. The salmon had no flavor what so ever. And their shrimp salad was like 10 tiny shrimp and iceberg lettuce. Was the worst seafood I had ever had. And when the waitress came by to ask if we wanted boxes. I told her was the worst seafood we had ever had. She just kept walking and said thank you and to have a great night. Left 64$ worth of food sitting there. Awful service and food. I would never recommend this place. I'd say stay the hell away from this place.

Drop Anchor is hands down one of the best places to eat in Long Beach. The staff makes you feel right at home the second you walk in, and the service is always friendly and quick without ever feeling rushed.

The food? Amazing. The seafood is cooked perfectly — the salmon and halibut were spot on, and the razor clam s, when available, are some of the best I’ve ever had. Big portions too, so you definitely won’t leave hungry. Even the sides were delicious, which says a lot.

It’s just one of those places that has a great vibe — cozy, welcoming, and you can tell they take real pride in what they serve. Definitely my go-to spot whenever I’m in town.

Service was good, servers were nice. Food was OK at best clam chowder was soup, not chowder. Calamari traded good but was the floppiest fried Calamari I've ever had. Fish and chips were super small. Apple crisp dessert came out cold.

It took well over an hour to hour and a half to get our food. The clam chowder tasted like warm watery milk dumped over a pile of chewy clams. The seafood fettuccine was $36 and the seafood wasn't good so the girls picked it out. The prices are way too high for how the mediocre food. I can't believe this place doesn't have worse reviews. The server was nice and it wasn't her fault the food wasn't good. Everything tastes like deep fried oil. Our group didn't feel good after eating here.

Went here a couple of weeks ago while on va-ca with my BFF, we had the crab, calamari & onion rings. All was delicious, the calamari was so tender & lightly battered, crab was the best I've had! We also ordered a shrimp coctail (the only thing we did not like) it was made with salad shrimp & was mushy, not what I was expecting. Overall I would definitely go again, but pass on the shrimp coctail.

Excellent service! Great atmosphere! The food is also good, but perhaps needs a bit more exciting menu items or specials. Otherwise this place is a family ran friendly and classy place. It feels a little like a diner but there is nothing wrong with that when the staff is super warm and professional.

I don’t recommend anything, besides the French fries. The cod was barely cooked as well as the cup of chowder. Service was very long, I could’ve went to Mc’Donalds at that point.
