This is my go-to place for impressive dinners with friends. Everything is great, the food, the drinks, the service, the atmosphere (you can actually have a conversation without straining). I have yet to have a bad meal here in several visits. They have a great selection and make their own pasta, sometimes you can even watch them stuff the ravioli. When I was gluten free, they were so lovely about it, making sure I still had bread and that the shared charcuterie plate wasn't contaminated. The only thing I don't like is when it's time to leave, we have shut the place down at least once.
Service was good and friendly but the food was soo disappointing. The bread service was horribly dry. We got the parpadelle with boar and the seafood pasta. The pasta was really tough and just not what fresh pasta should be at all. The seafood was also hammered. Just cooked to rubber mallets. In general very disappointing.
Wow! Must try authentic Italian food and experience. Super service, great live musicians for ambiance and excellent Italian wine list!
My girlfriend and I love this restaurant. The food it spot on and authentic and to die for. Highly recommend.
Pizza was fab and paired great with the Montepulciano.. Both on Happy hr today..
Cold food, under cooked noodles. Over priced
Looked good by the reviews. Never had been. Went for the Valentine’s Day dinner. Service was great and everyone was friendly. The food was a different story. Some came out cold that shouldn’t have been and in general it was just gross. The only thing we actually looked forward to was dessert and let’s be honest, a day old stale donut would have been better. The three other couples around us were saying the same thing and none of them finished more than one item per course. I would have expected a better meal considering it was $231 for the meal including a mandatory gratuity. If we could, we would have walked out. Felt like a scam honestly. Will never return.
Unfortunately, this restaurant is not one I can trust for a gluten free meal, even though they do offer gluten free options. I told the server that I am celiac, and she assured me that the gluten free pasta is prepared separately and not cross contaminated. This is the important part--the pasta they served me was NOT GLUTEN FREE! I thought it didn't look as described in the menu (for the gluten free pasta), so thank goodness I questioned it BEFORE I ate it! They gave me regular pasta. It would have sickened me for days if I had eaten it. Celiac disease is serious, and any amount of gluten can cause damage to the lining of your intestines, not to mention just the side effects for the days following. No apologies were offered by the server and our service was very poor overall. No checking on us, water refills, etc. I am leaving this review to encourage others with celiac or gluten sensitivity to be extra cautious. I will not return.
In addition, our party of 4 was cold (we ate with our coats on), again, no one checked on us for anything, we were there for 2 hours, and everyone else felt that their food was underwhelming. There wasn't one thing about the experience that would encourage any of us to return.
Unfortunately not much stands out. Food: ok. Service: poor. Atmosphere: meh.
I didn't personally care for it, if you really enjoy Italian food I would go for it. Otherwise, I would just go somewhere else.
Restaurantji Recommends
Absolutely FREEZING. It was 30 degrees out and the restaurant felt no different than outside. Waited what felt like YEARS for my food, which was just ok. I got the 7oz cod and it tasted weird and grimy, and to be honest I could've just made fish at home that would have been 10x better. $80 for an overall terrible experience. Do not recommend.
Horrible service. Made reservation, seated promptly, served wine, salad out promptly and terrible cheap white Walmart like banquet bread slices and tasteless spread.
Then sat for over an hour, no one stopped by, no water refills, no more wine - no contact - avoidance. We had a show and were down to. Half hour so I waved a waiter over and asked. Meal came 10 minutes later. Food was cool, we had to throw it down and run out the door. They charged an automatic 10%, I give /5% but not tonight. The frustration ruined the whole night. We drove 3 hours for this show. And dinner was so frustrating it was hard to recover.
After reading the owners comments I wish to add this commentary - I totally get things happen and your system going down was a bad situation. First, no one told use anyuthing was amuck until we were ther for an hour and we flagged you down to where is our food. It would have been helpful if we had been told upfront and we would have said - we need to be out of here by 7:45. We could tell something was not right - as patrons at the other tables were upset and frustrated waiting to get their bills. Once we saw what was going on - we felt terrible for the waitress staff - they had to bill out everything by hand. I can't believe a flor manager or someone, maybe call in hel[ - someone should have been tallying the bills so the waitress staff could take care of their regular duties. I would have had the folks sitting people or cleaning tables- helpng out or the Manager doing it. Since our reservation stated we had 1hr and 45 minutes at our table - we thought no need to tell you in advance we had to go at a certain time - because you are fli[[ping tables. If you think the 2 glasses of wine made u[ for this situation - you are wrong.; We got it and I threw mine down and my wife basically left most of it on the table - there was no enjoyment in chugging wine. We are sorry your system went down and your staff had to rally - communication is a key to understanding, properly managing a crisis is key to smoothing out the rough edges.
Recently visited this Italian place in Olympia. We walked in and were transported to italian cafe kinda warm cozy setting. We ordered their charcutrie boards (delicious) along with their gnochi, crab ravioli and everything tasted fresh, flavorful and delicious. You could make out that pasta was freshly made when it had minimal but tasty ingredients giving u amazing flavors in every bite. All in all highly recommend this place and I will be here more often now that we have discovered this gem of an italian place in Oly.
Pretty disappointing NYE dinner. Went for the NYE prefix, left feeling disappointed. Reservations were easy to make over the phone but the ease ended there. Arrived 10 minutes early and were told our table was still occupied so we took a walk around the block and came back. It was totally fine with us but the hostess was pretty awkward about it. Our server never introduced themselves, only asked if we already knew what we wanted from the prefix options. Most courses were overcooked and dessert options were pretty bad. Maybe we shouldn't have done the prefix as our first experience at Basilico but I don't think I'm up to giving them another shot mostly due to pricing. Was told $108 for prefix per person, total bill for two was $272 with one added glass of inexpensive wine, service fees and auto 10% gratuity. We've spent half as much at similar restaurants and had meals twice as good 😐
One thumb up and two thumbs down. I had pasta with shredded boars meat, thumbs up. Partner had seafood medley on pasta, thumbs down: overcooked seafood. We were asked if it was a special occasion when placing the reservation, and indeed it was: 39th wedding anniversary. We were congratulated over the phone but no acknowledgement on site. Not to compare w 8 years ago when we were offered a complimentary dessert, but an acknowledgement would have gone a long way. Service was not as good as I recall either.
