Amber hit it out of the park with our wedding cake & desserts, as per usual! I have hired Amber on numerous occasions over the past 5 years and knew I just HAD to have Sift + Gather at my wedding in Portland, OR. We chose her delectable chocolate cookie butter buttercream cake, along with her famous sweet buns and spiced cider doughnuts. Our guests raved about our dessert table and are still mentioning it weeks later! Amber executed the most perfect visual design as well, again: as per usual! No detail is missed with her work - you get both a delicious and beautiful masterpiece. She even drove our order all the way down to Portland to ensure it was delivered safely! I felt honored to have celebrated such a momentous occasion in my life with the greatest baker around.

Do not order from Amber or this shop!! Amber canceled our order and ceased all communications with us just days before our wedding. We had agreed on a price and confirmed the order but our order was canceled without a single text or call to alert us, apparently because we didn’t respond to one of Amber’s emails in-time (we were working to make other arrangements that week). When we appealed to Amber to reinstate the order after we discovered she’d canceled it, she said she was unavailable and abruptly ceased all communications with us. Very unusual and cold treatment to say the least, and our ceremony is ruined!

We absolutely LOVE Amber and her beautiful work. She loves what she does and it shows in her deelish cakes and sweet buns. If you have a vision, she'll make it happen. Seriously the most beautiful, romantic (yes, a cake can look romantic damnit) looking cakes ever. Keep an eye out on IG & FB for when she does a sweetbun day. You DO NOT want to miss those days. Not even kidding, we buy anywhere between 6-12. They take us about a week to eat but oh man, we look forward to our evening sweetbuns during that time. They keep very well in the fridge; just pop one... or two in the micro for a minute-ish. They're the perfect amount of sweet. Ya know how everyones favorite part of a sweetbun is the middle? I mean, it's for good reason, its delicious. I actually cannot pick what part of her sweetbuns are my fave. The entire thing is special in its own way. The fluffy outside with a kiss of all the gooey cinnamon mixture covered in the cream cheese icing. Then moving around to the middle where both sides are covered and its a little softer. The texture when you finally make it to the middle, just go ahead and plop it all in your mouth. Goodness, whens the next sweetbun day?

We worked with Amber for several months. One issue, is her lack of response to our emails. We had many questions, but it took forever in some cases to get answers, we always got some excuse as to why. Some of the things we asked for, she said "oh I can't do that" Really, you can not put pineapple in a simple cake? We ordered the main wedding cake and then two "kitchen cakes" We had several requests on the kitchen cakes but was told sorry not able to do that. Neither one of us were happy with the way they turned out. The carrot cake was very dry. The orange/blueberry cake, apparently blueberries were on strike that day cause in the entire cake, there were very few of them. Our main wedding cake turned out not to be as we wanted. We had requested a marble effect for the icing, it turned out just very light pink. There was to be berries with the honey vanilla bottom layer and there were none. It was to be decorated with greenery and small roses, instead it was with roses and one small piece of greenery. The cake was delivered at 11, pulled from the refrigerator at 12, cut at 2 and it was still frozen. We broke the handle on our handmade knife, trying to cut the cake. We had very high expectations in our 3 cakes, and was truly disappointed in them. The cakes were barely eaten by any of our guests. My husband visited her Instagram page and found her to be very vulgar. My husband said had he found that out up front, we would have never used her, sorry very unprofessional. Want to act like that, create a private account, not your business one. We paid the total amount up front, which goes totally against what my husband does, but I talked him into it. We paid Amber more for the cakes, than we did to have wedding catered. All we can say, be very careful if you use Amber, you might not get what you think you are paying for. From the moment I first reached out to her, I knew we'd made the right choice! She has this incredible positive energy, where she makes you feel like she's truly excited to work with you and make your day special. She worked with our florist to coordinate color scheme, and I was just blown away with how it turned out. Besides it being just gorgeous (and soooo much taller than I had even imagined.... yay, more cake!), this was seriously the best cake I've ever had. At the end of the night, we went into a local diner for dinner, and we actually shared our cake with a bunch of people there that we met, and they all agreed that it was the best cake they'd ever had.
