Our Tacoma venue, The Realm, had Essence of the Thyme listed as a preferred vendor and we totally know why. From our first interaction with them to our wedding day, the caterers and servers were a top notch group! They helped us immensely with all of the difficult detailed decisions. Even my folks, who are pickier eaters and like luxury service, were impressed and raving about the food and excellent/professional service. We loved that the servers were smiling and seemed to be having a great time too!!
We had a tasting back in March and I swear our July wedding food was doubly as good, since it was so fresh.
Menu: We went with a huge charcuterie spread + two passed apps, a family style PNW themed meal of fresh green salad + summer berries, cedar plank salmon with watermelon chutney, garlic mashed potatoes (to die for), creamy chicken pasta and grilled veggies! Fed 126 guests and we did all of our dish/utensil/linen rentals through them. Choosing to serve it family style was worth the added expense, guests were so comfortable and could enjoy their meal and conversation.

The staff lead, Celeste, was attentive, warm, and accommodating of our every request. Even the ridiculous requests! Her team of TJ and Olivia were equally helpful.

Before the wedding, we had a Zoom call with Chase to review our order, quote, and expectations. He was kind, professional, and easy to work with, which gave us confidence going into the big day. On the wedding day itself, the staff were nothing short of amazing. Their professionalism and kindness are what prompted me to write this review. One of the team members (a short, dark-haired gal, possibly a lead) went above and beyond—when my wife asked if there were any leftover peanut butter & jelly pork belly bites, she scraped together the remaining ones and set them aside at our table. That kind of thoughtfulness made us feel so taken care of. Service throughout the evening was seamless—empty plates were cleared quickly, guests were well attended to, and everything ran smoothly. The passed appetizers were a hit (highly recommend the PB&J pork belly bites—unreal!). For dinner, we chose the BBQ spread. The cornbread was decent, the beans and coleslaw solid, the lemon chicken excellent—but the pulled pork sliders stole the show. The BBQ sauce was so good it could make crack blush—absolutely addicting. Essence of Thyme delivered on every front: great food, great service, and a team that made us and our guests feel cared for. If you’re looking for catering that combines quality and heart, I strongly recommend them.

On the wedding day, they went above and beyond. We got pesto chicken alfredo pasta, salmon with lemon caper beurre blanc, mediterranean salad, garlic and herb mashed potatoes, 3 passed apps, and mushroom ravioli for vegetarians. It was all absolutely delicious and we got so many rave reviews from our guests about the food! The food was even better the day of the wedding than what we tried at our tasting. On top of the amazing food, the team was fantastic! We always got promt responses to our emails and everyone was super organized. Gina was our lead and she was so helpful. Our venue coordinator didn't show up and the catering team was able to figure everything out on their own, which was so appreciated during a crazy day. Gina made a point of finding my (the bride's) mother and introducing herself in case my mom needed anything. The bartenders and servers were all so friendly as well! I would absolutely use Essence again!
