Maheder Ethiopian Cuisine

I’m really bummed. This was my favorite Ethiopian Restaurant in the city. I thought it was a great blend of quality food and value. And with the name change, it’s just so mediocre now. Prices went up significantly while quality went way down. The beef was so hard. The veggies were lacking flavor. There are much better places to go. We won’t be returning here.

Not the same as chefs cafe. No hot sauce and now it’s only 2 pieces of fish with fish and salad. Different recipe and it’s more expensive. Not coming back

The most amazing Tibs Firfir I've ever had! Rich sauce with a slow-burn spice. Like a sharper bolognese, and injera mixed in with the tender beef. The chefs are always so nice too.

Absolutely delicious! The tibs were well cooked and seasoned, the misir was flavourful, and the mixed veggies were a lovely variety. Everyone working there was very kind and attentive. Maheder is, hands down, my new favourite Ethiopian restaurant.

Veggie combo is delicious! I was a fan of Chef Cafe and today tried the new restaurant. Happily, the flavors are vibrant and each lentil or vegetable had its own distinct herb and spice character. Can't wait to try the fish next time.

The price on Google Maps that was uploaded 1 year ago said veggie combo was $16, the menu I was given had $24.99. What kind of ridiculousness is this?

I came to Chef Cafe regularly for 12 years, usually for the veggie combo, lamb tibs, kategna, or foul. Their foul and their gomen wot were the best versions I have ever had of those dishes, and were among the best foods I have eaten in my whole life. I tried to stop there last weekend to get some takeout foul for breakfast, but their phone number was disconnected, and when I got there I saw inside had been gutted. I saw someone walking around inside, maybe doing some demo work, so I knocked on the door and asked what happened. He told me the family who ran it retired. I'm not sure how much he actually knew, though—he may have just been a contractor working for the landlord.

I hope the family who ran this place knows how much joy they brought me over the years. I will remember Chef Cafe forever.
