Can't recommend the classes enough! We learned so much from Shiuwen and can't wait to go back. Very high quality teas and they work to help you based on your price range and taste buds.
While I live in Indianapolis, I'm usually in Seattle a couple of times a year. I’ve been a tea drinker for over 20 years and have recently gotten into Taiwanese oolongs. When I found Floating Leaf on Google Maps, I added it to the list of many joints in Ballard I wanted to visit.
I made the trip up there with my teenage kid and met Shiuwen and Noah upon arrival. I’d started watching their YouTube channel, and they’re just as personable in person as they are in the videos. They seemed like old friends even though we’d just met. They set me up with a couple ounces each of several oolongs, and Noah sent a small sampler bag of bug bitten Diva along with us. I’m now kicking myself for not buying a few ounces.
Now that I’m home, I’ve been playing with steeping times on all the teas, and am doing some “grandpa style” drinking. It’s so relaxing to have this small ritual during a busy work day. Overall, I am more than satisfied with my trip here, and plan on visiting on all my trips to Seattle in the future. Keep up the great work!
So grateful to have a shop like this in Seattle. Fantastic Taiwanese oolongs spanning a wide range of flavors and budgets. My favorites I've tried here have been the Buddha's Hand and Sunburst. I haven't tried their non-oolong teas.
I particularly appreciate that they sidestep all the claimed health benefits of tea and really focus in on the experience of drinking it. That philosophy resonates very strongly with me.
If you only ever buy tea from the grocery store, I implore you to try some of their very affordable Jin Xuan. You won't regret it.
If I could give more stars I would. They knocked it out of the park. Seriously blown away. I love oolong, I just wasn’t finding exactly what I liked. So after hitting Reddit for the best place to buy Oolong and Floating Leaves kept coming up, if you want amazing oolong they have a loving following there. Really appreciated their descriptions and transparency. I looked and they are in Seattle which made me feel I was staying somewhat local (Portland). So I picked a few teas that sounded like they would hit my palette right. Ordered myself a little birthday present. Shipping was fast, packaging was beautifully done. I might be a little type A, this isn’t Amazon who throws stuff in a box and loosely tapes it shut. It’s done right, with care and detail. Even a hand written note on the packing slip.
They arrived early, on my birthday. A little gift from USPS I guess. I was so excited I fired up my tea kettle and got out my Gaiwan at 3 pm. Did a little tasting. Barely steeped my first tea and got hit with a blast of aromas, strong concentrated, clear. I took a step back. Not what I was used too. The cup was exactly what was promised and much more. I am very impressed. Each of the teas was beyond excellent. The quality is amazing. Packaging, presentation, and personal touch is apparent. Thank you.
That GABA Oolong is so good.
Loved getting my oolong tea here! The lady is so kind and knowledgeable. Would love to return for more teas!
Such wonderful products and resources for learning about the world of tea! My mornings are so much richer since discovering their wonderful teas <3
I bought a bunch of small orders of a lot of different teas to help start my tea journey. Not only did it get here in 2 business days but they also gifted me a a bag of oriental beauty! I really enjoyed their oriental beauty and if their other teas are half as good, it's worth the money.
Very helpful service, very attentive. I appreciate the knowledge!
Tea is very high quality and I am very pleased with my order that arrived expeditiously. I got a handwritten note too from Shiuwen xxoo. Santa Fe loves you FTL!
Amazing little shop. You can get everything you need here, including an education on how to make tea. The shop owner is so kind and made me feel very welcome despite how new I was to this. Definitely visit.

Incredibly knowledgeable and kind, fantastic tea
I can not recommend this place enough. My sisters and I went here for a tea class and the owner was knowledgeable, funny, and extreamly skillful. She taught us a lot and explained things in a way that even a beginner could grasp. Learning this style of tea has become a real source of joy for us and this class helped all three of us expand in that in different ways. We are already looking forward to coming back for another class on our next trip to Seattle. If you are interested in gongfu style tea, Chinese style tea, or Taiwanese style tea this place is a must. Make time for a class on your next trip. You won't regret it.
Floating Leaves sells high quality tea and has great service. I’ve ordered twice and things are always neatly packed with an additional sample and personalized note. Their descriptions come with a lot of transparency that gives me confidence in the product. Highly recommend the Alishan Black, and any Oolong they stock.
One of the few tea places in the city that emphasizes the phenomenological aspects of tea consumption and the art of appreciating the aroma, textures, and aftertastes of 乌龙茶! Too often do tea galleries have a knee-jerk tendency to list lots of supposed health benefits of teas without any consideration of the quality of the empirical studies underpinning such clinical claims. Unlike those places, this tea store sidesteps the whole 'health benefits' trend entirely and focuses on the much more straightforwardly accessible experiential dimension.
Favorite place to order the best oolong ever!! They are also so kind and I am grateful for all the knowledge they share with their community!
