Tried Ginger & Scallion and it lived up to the hype! Their rich, creamy Khao Soi is packed with bold flavors—no wonder it’s always busy.

Must-Try:
🍜 Seared Duck Khao Soi – Juicy duck, fragrant curry broth.
🥩 Beef Tenderloin Khao Soi – Tender, flavorful beef.
🍖 Oxtail – Fall-off-the-bone goodness.

Ended with Pandan & Thai Tea Tres Leches Tiramisu from San Bartolo Bake Shop—light, fluffy, and unforgettable.

If you love Khao Soi, this spot is a must!

I recently had the chance to try Ginger & Scallions new concept swap from chicken and rice to khao soi. Food, service and atmosphere is on-point for the most part, but, damn!, that dollar to food cost is a tough value proposition! I hate to ding G&S too much for the environment they are operating with the cost of operating in Seattle being high, but this portion to the cost was lopsided enough for me to make it the feature of this review.

I ordered take out for lunch the Beef Tenderloin Khao Soi that cost me 29.59 which includes a $2 tip (no drinks, sides etc). With the meal I got what looked to be 4-5oz of beef aka 5 thinner strips of steak, some noodles, and garnish. The dish was really good, but the portion was just too small. I spent $30 for a great flavor experience but had to spend more to get something else to eat. G&S should definitely at the least increase the amount of noodles and veg that comes with the dish, as there is plenty of curry/soup to flavor more noodles and veg.

Overall a good spot, but the price is noticeable. Order two portions of the Beef Tenderloin Khao Soi for a grown male adult.

I didn't get a chance to take a photo, I was too hungry and ate it real quick, but when I opened the take out container it visually appeared to look like leftovers based on how much food was in there.

Came for chicken rice but they removed it and only serve curry noodle soup now. Disappointing especially since the name Ginger & Scallion was for Hainanese chicken rice. Regardless, the curry noodle soup was extremely delicious. All the meats were tender and cooked perfectly.

However the prices are crazy. $25 dollars for beef tenderloin and the portions are small. $23 for duck soup. I hope they reconsider their pricing because it's just not worth above $20 for that portion.

So delicious honestly. However, after spending so much for a small bowl, I’m not sure I would return. I was so hungry when I left. Food 5 stars. Minus 2 for giving me so little food for such a high price.

It was an exceptional dining experience. The broth was rich and full of flavor.

My wife and I ordered the lamb and duck; while the lamb was excellent, the duck was the highlight of the meal.

Tucked away between Ballard and Phinney Ridge is a gem called Ginger & Scallion. It is THE PLACE TO GO any day but especially while the weather is so cold & chilly!!! I'd never tried Khao Soi before but OMG what an incredible taste treat!!! I've been back 6 times since it was introduced - We didn't think it was possible to like anything more than the Hainanese chicken… but THIS IS definitely IT!!

They serve one dish - Khao Soi. It is THE MOST amazing comfort food ever! Full of rich, savory & creamy broth with lots of perfect yummy noodles - each bowl has your choice of protein (oxtail, braised beef, tofu, tenderloin steak, or duck) & provides a satisfying and warming meal fit for foodie royalty!!

Garnished with crunchy noodles, thinly sliced red onion, some pickled veg, and cilantro. You need to try it!!!

Tip: My favorite is the oxtail get that one first!!! I could eat it for days on end! It is delectable, juicy, tender, and the meat just falls right off the bone! Bite after bite you savor that rich satisfying mouthful & you hope your bowl lasts forever… you'll probably drive back there the next day and become addicted like I did!

There's also excellent, friendly service, easy to find parking nearby, and a casual vibe that feels kinda homey and comfy like a good friend. JUST GO.

Ginger and scallion used to sell chicken rice but now they’ve pivoted to only selling khao soi. The khao soi is pretty good but in the pricey end. You order through a QR code through toast to place your order.

I LOVE Ginger & Scallion! My family has been here several times since they've been in this space and have loved every time! Their menu was centered around their extremely popular chicken and rice, which was to die for! 🤤 In the last couple of months they have switched over their concept to focus on select dishes from Thailand 🇹🇭 Their new menu delight is focused on slight meat varieties of Khao Soi 🍜 My family shared the duck, tofu and beef of the Khao Soi. Each made with similar soup bases but different toppings. All unique and delicious! 😋 I highly recommend trying their new menu and enjoying their unique menu concept. Of course we miss the chicken rice, but I'm sure it won't be the last time it will be featured on their menu, so we will continue to visit and enjoy their ever evolving restaurant and menu concept 😊 Thanks for bringing these unique dishes to Ballard and Seattle! We'll of course, be back! 🧡

I am comparing this to Pop Pop Thai (which has since permanently closed) as I almost always got Khao soi there. This review is for the duck (wife) and lamb (mine) Khao soi. It appears they may have had different entrees before, but at this time there was only Khao soi with different meats.

First, the portion is way too small. We're not big eaters, and we usually end up taking at least some food home, but we finished everything and still felt a bit hungry. If the meat portion is small, restaurants should at least increase the carb portion. Instead there was a small portion of egg noodle at the bottom and a sprinkling of crushed crunchy noodles on top - compared to Pop Pop's which had a nice "nest" of crispy noodles on top, this was extremely underwhelming in both portion and presentation.

Flavor wise it was ok, again I think Pop Pop's had a bit more depth and kick to their soup.

The best part of the experience was our server who was very sweet and helpful. We both regretted paying extra for the different meats, if you must try this place I think just order the $15 beef.
