We came for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The restaurant was not very busy, but we still sat for at least 10 minutes before our server came.
The food wasn't great. My friend had biscuits & gravy, the biscuits were just barely cooked, a little doughy, and the gravy was barely warm. Both of our hash browns were a pile of mushy potatoes. Our plates were dropped off without a word. The server came by several minutes later to see if we needed anything else, but never asked how the food was.
Just overall a disappointing experience.
I don't mind paying more to dine out, but at these prices, expect the food to be prepared well & staff to be friendly.

I came in for breakfast on December 13th. The potatoes were mush, the gravy was room temperature, the biscuits weren't fully cooked, and the egg wasn't quite done. The coffee was good though. I would have told our waitress all of this if they ever asked. The host was nowhere to be found and after waiting outside like the sign said we came in and was told to go back outside even though they were busy at all. 3 employees talking at the bar but we have to go wait outside. I've been here many times before but they failed on all fronts this time.

I absolutely love this place and always make an effort to visit when I'm in town. The food is good, the service is great, and the atmosphere is super cool. The salmon chowder is very good.

First and foremost, know that Hattie’s Hat is a classic diner and thus this review is contextualized to that. If you’re looking for fine dining, this ain’t the spot for you. If you’re looking for perfect diner food, decor, and incredibly friendly service—this is the spot for you.

The service is always friendly and quick when we visit. No complaints.

The atmosphere is classic in every sense of the word. We particularly enjoy going during the holidays when the tinsel is shining and the mugs see extra cute.

Portions are generous and tasty. HIGHLY recommend getting their Benedict from the all day menu, the sauce is zingy and generously poured. Only place in all of Seattle I don’t have to order a side, though I do recommend one for any of their potato dishes.

10/10. Will return again and again. Long live Hattie’s.

Nice atmosphere. Pancakes were absolutely massive. Texture/fluffiness was a 3.5-4/5 for me. Enjoyable but not something I would keep going back for.

Everything was delicious! We had our meal in the bar. Fantastic service!
Decorations for Halloween were fun to look at while waiting.
They have a little bit of everything for people who have special diets.

This place was built during the Old Testament or something (1904). Awesome. I came here with my sister and cousin. I recommend. We ordered a million sides and dishes, it wasn’t even an outrageous price. Our waitress was very nice.

FOOD: NOTHING bad to say about it. I reccomend the bagel sandwich (as shown in the photos)! I would order everything on the menu. Come here!!

A friend and his son came to visit Seattle and asked me to lunch. They also said I should pick the place…ummm thanks. My brain was scrambled so I grabbed my phone and searched for “old restaurants in Ballard” and at the top of this list was Hattie’s Hat. Established in 1904 as the Old Home Saloon it became a restaurant in the 1930s – 1940s. It serves breakfast and lunch throughout the day and dinner in the evening. I had the challah French toast, which was very good! The service and atmosphere were fantastic.

Great brunch food. Their chai alcoholic brunch drink was great! They also do really good mimosas too. My favorite part of the meal was the selection of hot sauces they had available at the table. They ranged from habanero to piri piri, awesome pairing with breakfast foods. 👌🏾
