Our favorite neighborhood coffee shop! And the music is good too!

Decent coffee and pastries. Cute and cozy atmosphere that fits right into Seattle.
I wanted to try this place out before coming with friends, since I moved right across the street last week, but I'm on the fence about it due to service. It was quick, but I didn't feel welcome at all as a customer and still tipped cash.
I'm a barista, too, so I get it to some extent, but I always smile and welcome customers. If I don't recognize someone, I ask if it's their first time in and offer my help. I just thought it was an uncomfortable interaction—I'm smiling, tip, and say thank you, but you're barely going to acknowledge me other than when you have to look up to take my order and hand it off to me (it wasn't busy either, there was only one person behind me in line right when my order was ready). I don't expect a conversation and I'm not chatty myself in these interactions, but I feel like a bare minimum in service is a greeting and thank you.
For me, what makes or breaks a café is its baristas—they're the heart of a coffeehouse.

I have been here so many times that I decided today was the day to finally leave a review, as Herkimer Coffee, as it has become my go to coffee shop for the past 2 yrs!

I happen to be a local business owner down the street from Herkimer, at Seattle Records.

I would never be able to do what we do every day without Herkimer!

The staff is so friendly and nice and they know our drinks by heart!

I love the design of this shop and they always have great background music without being too much! It’s not as loud as many other sit down coffee shops are!

If you are ever in the U-District at the top of The Ave, this is a must!

Stopped here on my way to work downtown when I needed somewhere open early and with a good mix of options.

They did not do pour over, but they did have a medium and a light roast option for their drip coffee.

So if you want delicious, fresh light roast, you can get it here if you show up early in the morning.

The space is beautiful and peaceful inside, and their maps / sources of coffee up on the wall are a lovely illustration of how global coffee is (and how ethical it can be).

I admittedly just got a cookie here. It was decent. Seems like a fine coffee shop. My friend who's a coffee shop connoisseur did not like how dark it was though. Would prefer a brighter place, especially during the Seattle long dark.

went in for the first time on Oct 8th and immediately the 2 behind the counter whisper something and laugh. no one else is in there besides 2 others sitting at a table. what a great way to make someone feel welcomed! I order my coffee and a muffin, they forget the type of milk I ordered and the forget pastry I ordered completely. I have to remind them both of the things I said 30 seconds ago. I just started work nearby but they made sure I won't go in there again
