Hey friends! This review is about sustainability. By 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. And over 95% of the plastic we tried to recycle do not actually get recycled, but actually end up in landfills, incinerators, and our waters.

I was delighted to see that you offer real, for-here options to customers. There is nothing better than delicious coffee in a real mug. I also love that you offer real cups at the water refill station. A great way to prevent needless plastic waste.

I wonder if there might be better ways to communicate to folks working from the café, or meeting with a friend, so that they understand to ask for a real, for your mug. I noticed quite a few people in house, but using the single used plastic cup that will get sent to the landfill.

Perhaps by promoting on your socials that there are reusables available, or by having your barista’s explicitly ask if the customer will be staying, you could mitigate more trash.

Thank you for considering this, and thank you for offering the dignity and possibility of a trash-free coffee experience.

Absolutely love this place, top 3 places in the city for great coffee and still affordable, unlike some coffee places in the city where coffee has gotten crazy expensive. Thank you guys!

Very unique! There’s always a long line but it goes by super fast. I like how the person who helps you check out pours the milk for your drink! It’s very satisfying to watch.

If you’re looking through reviews specifically because you’re thinking “hey, I’m in Seattle, I need to try their coffee. Seattle coffee. Something I can’t find elsewhere”, then stop looking.

Herkimer roasts their own coffee on site at this facility and imports green coffee from various countries. Several of these countries they have formed on site relationships with, and I know personally that ethically sourced coffee is a priority for them.

Today I stumbled in on a COOL AUGUST (SEATTLE!) morning and grabbed a Cortado with honey. Was super good. The espresso is smooth and the milk temperature was great. You can tell the baristas there are well trained. It’s likely all of these baristas have the insight of seeing the roast process first hand, which undoubtedly makes them better in their craft. They are also super nice!

If you’re looking for blended, Starbucks-like sweet sweet drinks, this is is not your place. They have BASIC flavors like Vanilla, Hazelnut, Orange, and a few others. They make mochas as well. Also, if you’re looking for substantive food, this is not your spot. They offer local Macrina pastries/lite-bites.

WELL PRICED. get here EARLY on weekends unless you don’t mind a 15 or so minute wait!

Idk what it is about Seattle and great coffee but Herkimer just hits different. Rolled in kinda groggy and left way too caffeinated (no regrets). Got their cold brew — deep, smooth, no sour notes — and a cheddar chive biscuit that tasted like it came straight from someone’s grandma’s kitchen. Baristas were super friendly without doing that over-the-top customer service act. Vibe was warm, with soft indie music and people quietly reading or typing away. You can tell it's a neighborhood favorite — lots of regulars chatting by the bar. Restroom was super clean, no weird wait or key nonsense. Felt like I stumbled into a little pocket of calm in the city.

I love my neighborhood coffee shop! The baristas seem to always pull a perfect shot and steam or froth milk (or alt milk) to perfection.

Love this shop and roaster. Get their beans for home and they are so easy to dial in. What stands out for the Phinney location on the retail side is their service. Whenever in Seattle and even when I've got a hectic morning ahead, the team behind the counter is always friendly, remembers my order, and seem to genuinely care. Thanks for making my mornings better.

Best latte I've had in my life. The pastries were delicious, too! We visited family in Seattle and stopped here every morning. My latte was so smooth and creamy. I've been dreaming about it since we left... I miss you. I'll never forget you.

Nothing could come between me and a cup of Herkimer Coffee, nothing. This joint is sublime. From the classic PNW coffee shop feel to the masterful coffee being roasted on site, Herkimer is coffee Nirvana. Pastries are on point and staff is helpful and qualified to shoot a mean shot. Nice convo with the roasters led to a deeper understanding of the huge contraption on the roof!

I come here very often—a few times a week. Undoubtedly some of the nicest staff of cafes in Seattle.

Unfortunately in recent months they’ve had a fair amount of staff turnover and the quality of the espresso drinks they provide has noticeably deteriorated. I often will no longer order a cortado depending on who is behind the bar.

Pictured is a cortado from today. Not terrible but also lacking when compared the craft of other cafes nearby like Santo, Vita, Cardoon, etc

Edit: @ business owners, yes this review is for the correct location.

My favorite cafe in Seattle, hands down
