My partner and I have been going to Hi spot for years! that’s why I feel the need to speak on my more recent experiences…

Anytime we’d have friends from out of town visit this is where we would take them. But over the last year I think management has changed, and quality has gone down. The servers don’t seem to enjoy working there as much, there’s a barista who used to work there that I think no longer works there- and there’s no way that was on her because she was a crowd favorite. She was quick, worked hard, remembered your drink order and everything even after only visiting a time or two. I think a few other servers have left or were let go and the vibe is just different. I’ve also been there when the manager/owner has lost his temper too. Servers deserve better than that. I’ve worked in the service industry and I know the work can be mundane or tough at times, and the last thing you need is a man screaming in your face for whatever reason IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS.

just not the place it used to be…

Great food. Service was pretty lack luster though.

We got the salmon omlette, corned hash beef & bacon. Everything tasted great & good service too. Especially thick cut bacon which is hard to find in many diners!

The only thing that sucks a bit is there can be a bit of wait but not way to check your position in the line so you gotta keep coming in and checking.

I have been coming to Hi Spot for years, and have always loved the food and the service here! Unfortunately, I’ve been having some not so great experiences recently including a really concerning experience that have been sitting with me.

First off, I’ve been seeing a certain barista more and more in the cafe, I think his name is Michael (mitchell?) who seems to never be in a good mood, who I have now experienced outright hostility from. He acts like my questions and pleasantries are dumb, and has made the experience of getting coffee from hi spot honestly unpleasant. I absolutely understand everyone has bad days and I’m not asking for sunshine and roses, but being cordial is not an unfair ask.

Additionally, a couple weeks ago I went in, had my usual sammy Sue, and the 2 waitress serving me were great. However, at one point a man (who I think was the owner/manager?) shouted quite aggressively at one of the servers. It was upsetting and confusing since the waitresses and kitchen crew was managing a busy day well. It was disappointing to see at this Madrona staple! There seems to have been a culture shift since the old owner moved on, and it makes me wonder if maybe the aforementioned unhappy barista man might be that way as a result of management, especially from what I’ve seen. Do better! Treat your workers better! We as customers are feeling it.

Fantastic old building. Charming, quaint and chock full of great people that work there. Food was prompt and the service was much more friendly than I am used to in Seattle. Great for coffee dates, breakfast and families.

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal. Portion sizes were very generous. Customer service was okay. The restaurant has a very cozy vibe with a coffee shop downstairs

Somehow this restaurant is doing a slow slide downward. A year or so ago, the food was great! Now it's just blah.

Dirty and bad service.

Been coming here on and off for 6 months and always treated badly by whoever was behind the counter.

As someone who's been in the restaurant industry for decades and currently runs and operates many of them, as well as founded a company for restaurant groups, I have to say the attitude and anger coming from staff is off the charts.

Is the owner a bad person or something? Are they not being compensated well? Is tip distribution wildly unfair or skewed?

There was a guy with glasses that said he was new who seemed to be pretty nice.

Some good memories here. Great pancakes and omelette

Good food, a bit pricey but everything is now. In a converted house, restroom on third floor, not good for folks who can't do stairs. Has been here for decades.

Interesting as when you walk in it doesnt look like a big restaurant. It's just a cafe at the entrance.

Turns out there's an entire labyrinth of tables in the back.

Food is good, fresh ingredients. I ordered the French toast which had real fruit and maple syrup.

Americano was awesome! Service was great! I'd go back or if you're in the area make the trip!

Try the hash with eggs over easy. My companions' meal also were reportedly quite tasty. Neighborhood haunt appeal is inviting.
