Earlier today we stopped by Royal Kitchen in Bellevue (my normal go to) with family and friends from southern California, excited for dim sum. We asked for a table for six (four adults and two babies), but since our little ones were still napping in the car with my wife, the staff refused to seat us until the babies woke up. It felt unreasonable and lacking common sense, so we decided to leave.
We then went to Hong Kong Bistro, and the experience couldn’t have been more different. Even though our babies were still asleep in the car when we arrived, the staff welcomed us in right away, seated our group, and let my wife and the kids join us once they woke up. That small gesture of understanding made all the difference.
On top of that, the food was absolutely incredible — as always, a solid 10/10. Every dish came out bursting with robust, authentic flavors that Hong Kong Bistro consistently delivers.
What started out as a frustrating situation turned into an amazing family meal thanks to the kindness, flexibility, and outstanding hospitality at Hong Kong Bistro. This place truly never disappoints. Thanks for understanding people with children and accomodating us.

Beef chow fun is a banger
The service left much to be desired. While the food was acceptable, it was not memorable enough for me to return. The servers were frequently rushing back and forth, which created an uncomfortable and unsafe atmosphere. I was also seated at a table for two that was unusually long, making it difficult to reach my food. When I adjusted my chair for comfort, I was asked to move because I was apparently obstructing the servers’ path. Overall, the experience was disappointing

Quite a few people waiting in the lobby but since we were only a party of 2,we were seated after 15 min.
The dim sum menu covers most of the popular dim sum dishes. The shu mais were large and tasted amazing, one of the better shu mai i've had. Having lived in HK, Toronto, and Los Angeles, i feel like i have a good frame of reference. The football tho, was cold, greasy, and under fried. Tripes were under seasoned and a bit tough. The crispy red rice roll was a new thing to me, basically a steamed rice roll wrap over a crispy spring roll. It's interesting. Bbq pork bun was legit. Shrimp and chives dumpling was really good.
We ordered the fish congee to go as dinner and it had generous serving of fish inside. Next time I'll try their pork and thousand year egg congee.
We saw other tables with roast duck which looked really good but we were too full.
In a land full of dim sum disappointments this is a solid find.

i’ve had both purple dot (next door) and hong kong bistro’s steamed pork buns. based on that alone purple dot is way better. the custard buns here are way too sweet. their dough is bland :(

Bad bad experience! I felt that I was more of a bother than a customer..dry, unfriendly, cold...and the worst schezwan ever...the noodles were kind of dry, sizzling spicy although I specifically requested NOT SPICY.. the two pieces of whatever veggies were not cooked at all...

We were a party of two, came on a Sunday at 10:50am to see if we should take our (Chinese) dad here when he comes to visit us and.... we think he will be impressed! There was already a small line out the door but we got our number card (for the queue) and only waited for 10ish min? First impression was modern setting, clean, and pretty friendly staff. (OK,not like grinning-and-greeting customer service but also not rough-and-daunting looks with slamming dishes on your table, IYKYK, so we consider this friendly.)
Food - So many authentic options! Hubby's watermelon sago and my milk tea tasted like they should. Dimsum was generously portioned (3-4 BIG pieces each) and very fragrant. Maybe lightly seasoned for some people but we liked that. I can't take heavily salty and greasy food. I like that they have the chili oil and soy sauce ready on the table too so you don't have to chase down anyone. Would definitely come back for the breakfast items and other food we missed from HK! 😋
Check out - We didn't mind getting up to pay at the counter seeing how busy they were but someone actually came. (Only bugger, if any, was being stared at while on the tipping screen.)
Suggestion? Definitely come early for a shorter wait (and more parking) and don't look at the price tag if you are here for authentic food.. sorry, they're Seattle prices. 😬 $$ With 7 dimsum items and 2 drinks for 2 people plus a 15% tip, we paid around $70-80. (We did have some leftovers to-go so maybe we could've ordered 2 items less and spent $50-60 instead.)
