The Queen Anne How to Cook a Wolf is consistent in being excellent. The food is always prepared to perfection. The ingredients are well sourced. The atmosphere is lovely. The staff is incredibly friendly without being intrusive. It's my favorite neighborhood restaurant and one of my top 3 in Seattle.
I used to love How to Cook a Wolf in Queen Anne—the space, ambiance, and food always made for a lovely experience. I’ve been to the Madison location before, and while the vibe was different, it was alright. Last night, though, was dismal. First, a mandatory 22% service charge on top of overpriced drinks is absurd—why am I paying this much extra? Service was awful; our server Troy was pleasant but ineffective. Our table wasn’t ready at reservation time, leaving us to wait uncomfortably in the entryway. Once seated, it took 10 minutes for Troy to even appear. Food came out sporadically and mistimed—mediocre at best. The gnocchi was bad, the Chicken Valdostana was burnt on one side and flavorless, and the Strozzapreti Arrabbiata was bland, soft pasta—a $29 dish (nearly $40 with tax and tip) that a kid could make. Mediocre food, drinks, and service, all overpriced. Sorry, Ethan Stowell, I’m done.

Solid higher end establishment for a good dinner. Came here for a work outing with a reservation, but I'd recommend doing a reservation just in case.
Service was good. They really helped with portions for appetizers. We had the bread, Brussels sprouts, and a few others I can't remember. Highly recommend the sprouts.
We shared various pasta dishes. I felt like some of the noodles were a bit overcooked. I loved the venison ragu and the spicy shrimp pasta dish.
I may come back again with my wife, but for a weeknight dinner, this was good.
Parking was super easy to find on the street, but you may have issues on the weekend.

The architecture of the restaurant is very warm and nice, a tad on the noisy side.
But the service and food did not meet expectations
The appetizers :
The olives are a tad bland
The Brussels sprouts were too salty
The tuna was good
The salad was nice
Main dishes:
We ordered 3 pasta dishes , two were just boring and one pasta with sardines was just horrendous , like overcooked pasta that was drowned in a moody of too salty sardines from a can. Yuck.
Service:
The server took away first course dishes before we finished them and the sardin pasta took over 40m to bring.
Call to action: change your menu, retrain your chef

Most unnecessarily pretentious restaurant I've ever been to. I went for my birthday dinner with a group of friends. The appetizers were good, but the food itself was inconsistent, disappointing and bland. Two of my friends ordered the agnolatti, and two ordered the chicken valdostana. One of the agnolatti's sauce was extremely watery, and the pasta was lukewarm and bland. One of the chicken's was dry, and she was shaking the whole table trying to cut it (reminiscing of that one SNL skit). The other chicken and agnolatti were normal, so I'm wondering if there's an inconsistency issue in the kitchen? Another friend had ordered the conchiglie and the pasta undercooked, and the sauce was watery and somehow over-peppered. I'm glad she sent it back because it was literally inedible, but that also took a long time because our waiter was rarely checking on us. I ordered the pappardelle, which was definitely not worth the $31, nothing about it was outstanding. The food took quite a while to come out after our appetizers, which barely held us over because the burrata does not come with bread (who just eats a ball of cheese on its own?), and the 4 slices of bread we did order was $14. On top of everything, the service charge was 22%, which is insane for watery, bland food and disappointing service. Save your money, go somewhere worth your time and tastebuds. I should've gone to Bizzaro or Brunello's, at least they know pasta!

Went for Valentine’s Day dinner. The food was terrible. The meat was tough and bland. Fish was rubbery, fishy and bland. Pasta was too salty.

Food and atmosphere are great, but service was subpar, especially considering they tack on an automatic 22% to every single table!! Tip culture is out of control. I would understand if I was dining at somewhere like Canlis where the service was above and beyond, but the service here was average at best and 22% is outrageous. Won't be coming back anytime soon. Do better ESR.

We had high hopes for this restaurant as it had been on our list for quite a while, but unfortunately, it didn’t meet our expectations. The food was just ordinary—simple and okay—but nothing stood out in terms of flavor or presentation. While there was nothing wrong with the dishes, there was also nothing memorable about them. Honestly, the most intriguing part was the name of the restaurant itself!
I used to love this place. I came with my family in the past and it was incredible. It used to be impossible to get a table and the food was amazing. I decided to come back for a date night and it was so disappointing. Firstly we had a reservation and they sat us at a table with backless stools even though there were open unreserved proper tables. I feel that if we took the time to make a reservation we should be seated at a proper table. The server was good and very sweet but that was about it. The quality of the food has gone down so much it made me sad. Our pasta had many undercooked pieces and the steak and broccoli had no flavor. I was excited to come back to this place and share it with someone new but I don’t think I’ll be going back because of how the quality has gone down. Would never spend this much money here again.

Do not go to this restaurant. It is far too loud. Ruined the evening for us. I literally Pulled out my iPhone to test the decibel level which measured max of 113 and avg over 100.

Place holding for a longer review, but will say I recommend this location wholeheartedly.
Quick tip: If the prix fixe menu is available... Get it.
Loved our Saturday brunch! The food was incredible and Heather gave the best service. Grab the polenta appetizer at brunch. Wow, it was incredible ? Highly recommend!

Food was great, high quality but expensive. Service is poor despite the 22% mandatory tip.
