I have been going to this establishment for over 10 years and it has always been great.
Not only does it have great happy hour times but the services is good.
I had Ross last time I was there, they are amazing!

It's definitely a cool place, but every time I'm here I'm just disappointed with the food. Bland is the best word I could use to describe Japonessa.

I visited on Tuesday and was seated quickly in front of the rolling sushi area. I ordered the mango sake, the Seattle Crunchy Roll, and one Emperor's rolls. For dessert, I had the mochi sampler with four flavors—mango was my favorite.
Overall, everything was delicious. The sushi was fresh and flavorful. I will definitely come back to this restaurant again.

Service was very good but the sushi was a bit average but affordable during happy hour! Each role was $11-$12

One of the best hidden gems in Downtown Seattle. Must visit, highly recommended. Great fusion sushi and selection of cocktails. Excellent location and atmosphere.

Not authentic Japanese. The sashimi was ok. The signature rolls were good.

Good place !
Tasted better sushi at other places. The food was very mediocre, and the karaage chicken was not at all authentic. Definitely expected more for the price.

Adding 3% for credit card usage is crazy. Soon these guys will start charging for employee benefits, restaurant repair fees and dining ware usage 🙄

I was extremely optimistic about this restaurant from social media. The atmosphere and food looked amazing. My excitement did not last long and I was left completely disappointed. As someone who worked as a part time server at midnight Japanese Izakaya, you need to earn your tips. This includes: making sure everyone’s water is filled, changing everyone’s plates, asking about how everything was tonight, frequent check ins, etc. The waiter neglected my girlfriend’s water as well as only changing my appetizer plate but not hers. Additionally he barely checked in on us. Yes we are college students but I am willing to tip at least 18% on a date night if I felt my service was exceptional. I felt like we were neglected because we probably wouldn’t tip much (not true). Also it was not even that busy and the servers were too busy talking to each other. Again I worked 13 hour shifts before and yes it gets tiring and sometimes when it’s slow you can talk to your coworkers, but please do not neglect your customers and expect tips. The food was mediocre and we both had stomach issues the morning after. I mean the concept is cool (mexican japanese fusion), but the experience (service and food) was not satisfactory at all. Would not recommend.

i understand that it’s a fusion restaurant, but none of the flavor combinations tasted good to me. the “seared” salmon on the Sweet Kiss roll was barely seared, almost tasted like it was baked thus making the whole roll taste fishy. The seared salmon on the Spanish Lover on the other hand was decent but the cilantro sauce was far too heavy. “Karage” was beer battered nuggets at best. Service was nonexistent and server didn’t even check in with us once. Usually I take pictures of my food but I was so far disappointed that I didn’t even bother to take a single one.
