Kedai Makan serves Malaysian food right in Capitol Hill! Been wanting to go here for quite a while because I've only had Malaysian food once before. As you walk into the restaurant you have to push a quite hefty door, that door leads you into this bustling restaurant with cramped tables. The set-up of the interior makes the restaurant look smaller. I went with my friend and we shared the nasi lemak and nasi goreng. Both dishes were spectacular and offered sweet and tangy taste. The nasi goreng was much like a special fried rice but it was served with a sweet and spicy sauce and cucumbers and tomatoes to freshen up. The nasi lemak was a special dish. The chicken tasted like a coconut curry flavor and reminded me of laksa. I liked how it contrasted with the seasoned peanuts and the sambal. Everything worked well together! One thing I would like to add about Kedai Makan is because it is so condensed and there are a lot of people, when there is music playing I could barely talk to my friend at all. I just heard they opened up a new location so hopefully that one is bigger. The employees were wonderful and one of them even popped a joke with us. Looking forward to going here again!

What do you write about this place to do it justice? Try everything, expect leftovers, enjoy spicy food, pair it with lovely cocktails, benefit from attentive service, and then do it all over again! A gem.

I was unfortunately not a fan :( I was excited to try and the people were so nice! But the food had really fishy taste which makes sense because it includes anchovies and I overestimated my ability to deal with that. Also the coconut rice was so sweet and I wasn't a fan of that. I could try ordering another dish if a friend wanted to come back. The sides were good though!

Honestlyyyy this place was kind of overhyped for me. I never went to their old location before they reopened under new management, so I don't really have much for comparison. My friends and I got a couple of dishes to share between the five of us, and everything was on the salty side. Nothing was particularly standout either. It was honestly an okay experience, but I couldn't really see what all the hype's been about.

This is a great place to bring out of town guests. Food is great, staff are knowledgeable and friendly, interior is colorful and fun.

Wife and I loved this place and visited it multiple times before it changed management. Wife went with colleagues a few days after the change of management and the feedback was that the experience was considerably worse.

I've been wanting to check Kedai Makan for a while now and finally got the chance to check it out. We came as a party of 2 on a friday night around 6pm and there were a few empty table so we were able to walk in and get seated right away. We ordered the nasi lemak and the nasi goreng. Both dishes were delicious and I really loved all the flavors. The chicken in the nasi lemak was very tender and flavorful and the peanuts gave a nice crunch. The nasi goreng was super flavorful as well but it was wayy too salty for me. The cucumbers were a nice way to balance out both the saltiness and spice. Overall I enjoyed the food and would love to come back for more! The servers were friendly and attentive and the overall atmosphere was good! The music was a bit loud though, it felt like I was shouting at my friend.

This place made me like shrimp paste as a condiment. Had the beef rendang and the chilli oil pan mee. Both were delicious.

This place is a great spot in Cap Hill, filled with ambient lighting and good food. I have had the Laksa, Roti Jala Vo (great chicken curry to dip in), Chili Pan Mee and fried chicken. The Chili Pan Mee is a mild spice but it's a great textural variety while being very filling. The ribs are spiced and good flavor, just be aware it does not come with rice. We made a reservation and though a friend was late, they let us sit right away.

It's been a while since I went to Kadai Makan since they closed the old location. This new location is a bit more central in Capitol Hill, near Trader Joe's. I tried two of their most popular: the nasi goreng and the chili pan mee. Nasi goreng: I like the egg. I think the rice could use a bit more coconut fragrance. The peanuts could use a bit more dried fish. The beef rendang is good if you find the tender pieces, but some pieces are a bit dry. Some of the rice was clumpy. Chili pan mee: to me, the soy sauce flavor of the ground pork and mushroom is a bit overwhelming compared to the other flavors. The poached egg is yummy though. Seating: despite booking ahead, we were seated in a corner. While it's quiet and private, it's a bit hard to find the waiter if they happen to be away. Service fee: an automatic 20% service fee is added to your bill, and no tip is accepted. I don't particularly like this, because I feel like the service provided was pretty minimal once the food was delivered to our table. Water and utensils are already on your table. Plus, hypothetically if the service were poor, you would still be forced to pay the service fee.

It's so rare to find Malaysian food here in the U.S. but I was so glad to stumble upon this spot! It was so good! We got the Sayap Ayam Pedas which were chicken wings, but honestly the crushed toppings (scallions and peanuts) and spices were the highlight as they elevated the dish. The Nasi Lemak was really good as the coconut rice really pulled the dish together. The last dish I tried was the Chili Pan Mee. I'm a big fan of spice, but towards the end of finishing the noodles, my mouth was on fire! I couldn't stop eating it though since it was so good. I've come here twice in the last year when I've gone on trips, and hoping to make another journey here the next time I'm in Seattle!

Absolutely delicious Malaysian food with amazing service and beautiful ambiance! I've heard great things about this place and had to check it out! It's super colorful, bright, and well-lit. The food comes out quick and is super flavorful and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the Nasi Goreng. Overall, an amazing spot and will be back!

Finally tried the Malaysian restaurant every Seattleite talks about, a bit disappointed. Wish I tried their original location. Most of their dishes were too salty. My favorite was the nasi lemak, had the right texture, balance in flavor, and nice plating. Would skip the pineapple and cucumber salad, mine had mainly pineapple and just tastes like tajin and fish sauce, can simple make at home. The fried chicken wings were dry and simple, would pass on that as well. Food portions were small for the price. Staff were friendly, checked up on us often and gave good recommendations. Their reservation system was convenient. Decorations were pretty and welcoming. A nice spot to take friends to.

I've consistently had a positive experience at Kedai Makan. The restaurant is always clean and pleasant. Despite being busy, the food is served quickly, and the service is attentive. However, some dishes are overly salty, and the desserts are too sweet for my taste. Overall, it's still a great place to revisit.
