I have to say, the food at this restaurant is delicious. However, I was very disappointed to find that the restaurant is involved in stealing tips from customers. We clearly left a cash tip, but an extra amount was still added to our credit card bill. This behavior is shocking and highly unethical, and it seriously undermines customer trust.
In addition, the restaurant environment is far from ideal. Such poor management and questionable ethics completely ruined the dining experience. I will not be returning, and I do not recommend this place.
Maneki is an absolute gem in the International District and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates authentic Japanese cuisine and a truly special atmosphere. Stepping inside feels like a warm hug from the past – it's one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in the country, and you can feel that history.
We opted for a tatami room (highly recommend booking this in advance!), which made the experience even more memorable. Kicking off your shoes and enjoying a meal in that traditional setting is fantastic.
The FOOD! Oh my goodness, the food. We had an amazing spread! The sashimi platter was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented – a real highlight. The unagi don (eel rice bowl) was rich and flavorful, and the sukiyaki was so comforting and delicious. We also tried the takoyaki (perfectly crispy and savory) and the agedashi tofu, which was delicate and flavorful. Even the chicken wings and korokke were fantastic. Everything tasted like it was made with care and tradition.
Service was friendly and helpful, happy to offer recommendations. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and experience you get. This isn't some trendy, overpriced spot; it's the real deal.
Maneki isn't just a meal; it's an experience. It's a piece of Seattle history that's still serving up incredible food. Can't recommend it enough! Go, but definitely make a reservation. You won't regret it.
We had an awesome meal. Good food with great service.
We ordered the Hamachi kama (yellowtail collar), spicy tuna rolls, Hamachi rolls, black cod collar with miso, and Udon with tempura- yes, we love hamachi!. It was a rainy day, and this meal turned out to be the perfect comfort food. The fish was incredibly tender and sweet, with sauces that were well-balanced and enhanced the natural flavors. The sushi rolls were especially fresh.
We heard this is one of the oldest Japanese restaurants in Seattle. While it’s not fancy or modern in appearance, it’s well-maintained and has a lot of character. The staff were fast, friendly, and very knowledgeable when we had questions about the menu. If you’re looking for quality sushi and traditional Japanese dishes in the area, check this place out.
Food was solid. I was shocked that a can of Sapporo was $15. Yes a 12 ounce can was $15. The service was beyond terrible. Incredibly slow. We didn’t get our $15 beers until we had been there for an hour. Who charges $15 for a can of yellow beer?!
This restaurant gives authentic Japanese vibes. Food and service are awesome.
We ordered beef sukiyaki, chicken teriyaki, and age nasu and were blown away.
The oldest Japanese restaurant in Seattle. They have great sashimi and rolls are very tasty. Their bar was under renovation so no cocktails but they do have a good selection of sake
Absolutely the worst Japanese spot in Seattle. Stood outside for hours, only to discover they only serve those with reservations. Showed up at 5pm, hardly anyone there, but they flat-out refuse walk-ins. Nowhere on their site or Google Maps does it mention this. Complete waste of an evening.
The worst Japanese restaurant in Seattle. Waited four hours outside only to be told it’s reservation-only. We went in at 5pm when it's not busy yet but they don't take walkin at all. They should've put this in their website or Google map. What a waste of my time
Food is good but over priced. Staff very nice

We had a wonderful experience at Maneki. Highly recommended!
This place is so cozy, it's quintessential homestyle Japanese food that is absolutely delicious and reasonably priced.
Loved the space and the natto, nagaimo, tofu dengaku, house cured mackerel, and the miso tripe. A great meal!
This restaurant is like 120+ years old and I have to commend them on their tradition, menu size, and some of the home style items. However the portions can vary wildly and the prices are all over the map. Some items are better deals than others. I recommend studying the menu in advance.
I ordered one sushi bowl for $30 and it was 6-7 thin slivers of sashimi on rice. Tax and tip brought it up to $40. Insane! But some entrees are large and filling for $20.
Unique appetizers I don't see elsewhere, like marinated eggplant, and their dumplings seem handmade instead of the bulk frozen gyoza, so many other Japanese restaurants serve.
The fried ice cream dessert had poppy seeds and almond flavoring, which I have not experienced before. If you have a nut allergy, you should probably stay away from it. Normally deep fried ice cream is only ice cream and pancake batter.
Their bar is under construction so they only have a limited beer and sake menu but they assured us it will be resolved soon.
The food was average and the price gauging is absolutely absurd. Charging $15 for a can of beer should be illegal. The most prestigious cocktail bars in Seattle don’t charge that much
