Mike’s is legendary in Ballard. The business is almost all that's left of the real Bsllard back when it was home to Ernst’s hardware, old Scandinavian folk, and reasonable housing. I can hardly think of how life was in the mid-90s and before without a very sad feeling. Check out Mike’s before its gone. A spoonful of old Seattle.

I hope the lady feels better because she seemed to be having a really hard day (or years, based on similar reviews here) in her empty restaurant when we showed up. Didn’t get to taste the chili because I’ve never been more sure someone will spit in my food based on her attitude toward us across two interactions in 5 minutes.
If someone can’t even treat another human with baseline kindness or respect why should we expect them to put care/effort into the food they prepare or kitchen they maintain?

Probably the best chili I’ve ever had. Cash-only, but there’s an ATM inside. We weren’t aware of this, because there’s only a “cash only” sign outside, but no sign indicating an ATM. So, we had to go to Trader Joe’s and get cash back, but totally worth it!

Loved visiting Mike’s Chili Parlor in Seattle. Long standing institution with great Chili, Burgers, and Fries. Plenty of local beer options. Staff were friendly and service was rapid. Will definitely be back! Can’t wait to tell my friends.

The lady behind the bar was extremely rude from the moment we walked in, as if they were annoyed that we wanted to check out the place. You can tell they have regulars and that's who they care to serve.

Bear in mind that this Chili Parlor is over a century old. The recipes are old-fashioned and a little greasy compared to what's served in upscale joints. On the other hand, Mike's is genuine and honestly itself. The patio is pleasant, the service is personal and personable. If you need fancy food go elsewhere. If you want a tasty bowl of chili with or without beans and the right beer to go within, go to Mike's.
