If you want to see the market of the past, it's gone. The smell of things in the air was thick and foul. In one spot a man lay in the street, oblivious to the world walking around him. I left saddened by what I saw.

I wanted to grab some smoked salmon for my partner back home (visiting Seattle without him) and this place came highly recommended by...the internet. The guy I talked to was very helpful and offered to give me a sample. Imagine me, someone who typically dislikes salmon, taking a bite and immediately feeling like I'm being hugged by a home I've never even known. Even the $40/lb price point didn't scare me off. I just went for it. Fantastic. Phenomenal. Yes please.

The atmosphere and tossing of the fish was the reason we visited the market. Very energetic and fun! We decided to purchase because there was no line and made our fish selections - kids enjoyed watching them toss our fish! First, we were oversold, we purchased 2 fish and we had enough for 15 people (we only had 5), and the fish is expensive. There was no line and it took 30 minutes to filet 2 fish, which we ended up not being able to prepare due to the number of bones in the fish. It was huge disappointment. Will never purchase again.

Today I took my special needs son Adam to see the fish throwing. Not only did he see the fish throw, the guys behind the counter made Adam part of the experience. Adam has been talking about it non stop all day and we were able to catch it on video. Thank you SO MUCH for your kindness. It was one of his best days ever BUT he will not be back to work another shift since we are leaving Seattle in the morning. ๐โฅ๏ธ

Smelled bad, but that's just fish. Also could have been cleaner. People were shouting to get people to buy food. Other than that, they had a large selection of fish in good condition and food

Iโve had a lot of shrimp cocktails and oysters in my life. This was the best 20 dollars I have spent in Seattle. Iโm headed back tomorrow for some more and also some scallops.

You'll see a crowd of tourists with their phones out waiting for one of the fishmongers to toss a fish over the counter. It's cool when it happens, but you should also just consider buying some fish. It's fresh and delicious and they'll butcher up whatever size you're looking for. They also tend to offer some free samples of smoked fish. You'll pay a bit of a tourist tax here but the fish is high quality.

A great place to visit but I skipped the food experience because of the lines! I loved walking through the alleys and especially the flowers! The market was buzzing with food, culture and my favorite sight: seafood! Everybody seemed nice and know customer service! Not too expensive while I was browsing and the walk to the overlook way was a plus! I loved that while you walk to the market you can see through the lake!
