Loved the service and all the little details in the decor

Crowded tables and tacky decor. The service was good until they reminded us that if we made a reservation, we had to purchase an entree--what an elitist and stupid policy. And they knew we were there to celebrate a birthday, and that it was our first time there because we told them that as soon as we sat down... why then bother to say that? 😔 We just weren't that hungry on the day and the menu seemed too pricy for what it was. Not many organic teas or food options. Sorry for not wanting to pay 100s of dollars to eat pesticides. 😅

Delicious! What a whimsical, fun afternoon. Pricing-wise it's on par with any other Seattle restaurant, so if you're looking for something with a little bit of 'it' factor, you should definitely check it out!

Weekends definitely get busy, I'd recommend getting a reservation in advance if you're doing brunch!

Amazing afternoon tea!!

As always, the food, the service, and the atmosphere was perfect. We plan a birthday event there every year and have not had a bad experience in all the years we have celebrated there.

Wonderful experience. Had the High Tea, even the soup was unbelievable. Lots of work put into decorating and little touches. Very nice afternoon with my Mom

The tiered tea was very good. Those who had something else also liked their dishes. The tea was excellent. The menu is great and we appreciated the diversity of tea and food. I found the individual items in the tea tray very fresh but somewhat boring. The service was excellent. The staff was personable and attentive. The decor was fussy and a dark palette. I have experienced a number of high tea emporia. This was good but not the best I've had. Still I would cheerfully return for another visit.

Queen Mary Tea House is a “refined” fine dining establishment claiming to deliver an elegant and formal British afternoon tea experience.

And certainly, you will get an experience, just one where you are deceived, scammed, and held hostage to your reservation.

When calling to make a reservation for Saturday at 2pm the employee on the line made no mention of crucial reservation policies such as:
-Full meal policy. Each person in the group must order a “full meal”.
-Cancellation fee. If you cancel your reservation within 72 hours of your reservation time OR if you decide to leave without ordering, you must pay a fee of $25 per person.

The employee also failed to mention that the only available “full meal” during our reservation time would cost over $90 per person, leaving my friends and I feeling deceived and frustrated. This made for one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had. As there was no escaping the situation without incurring a $100 cancellation fee, we decided to stay in hopes of high-quality service.

The food:
1/5: Miniscule portions, very dry baked goods, minimal ingredient sandwiches, and unwashed fruit. The scarce serving of fruit, especially the grapes, was literally covered in dust and dirt.

The tea:
The tea itself was a 3.5/5, and perhaps the only saving grace. We ordered the Alice in Wonderland Rooibos, CrÚme Brûlée, Darjeerling, and Raspberry CrÚme. My favorite was the Alice in Wonderland Rooibos; it was mellow, earthly, smooth, and a little sweet. Next would be the CrÚme Brûlée, with a delicious aroma and bold, rich flavor and an overall sweet profile.

The presentation:
The entire tea set was mismatched. In traditional, formal British afternoon tea it is customary for the porcelain saucers, teacups, and teapot to match each other.
In the high season of afternoon tea only a commoner would be caught with a non-porcelain tea set, let alone a mismatched set.
For such a “refined” tea house, being served a mismatched tea set and a metal tea pot was a slap in the face.

For a better tea experience per $, just go to Tea Republik, an establishment that makes no claims at fine tea experience, yet outperforms Queen Mary’s on all counts of business ethics and dignity.

Been going to Queen Mary for 35 years. Lately, very disappointed. Slow service, most of the items on my Afternoon Tea tray were ice cold. My husband received his food and had eaten half before I received mine. The waitress never refilled hot water for our tea. Not at all worth the money any longer. Overall, lots have changed, unfortunately. The waitress was friendly.

The Queen Mary Tea Room is a great place for celebrations. The birthday girl got an adorable (and reportedly tasty) strawberry creme puff! The decor is festive and the team gracious. Each server was knowledgable and engaged. The food was delicious, from savory to sweet, and beautifully presented. The variety and quality of tea was impressive. Be prepared: It is a small space, so the sound level can be quite intense. My chair was close to a table with lively conversation that I got to hear in detail! I would go again in a heartbeat.

The whole experience of being at and dining at Queen Mary's is unique and special. My only negative comment was that we were seated at the corner table in the main dining area and it is really cramped. Hard to get in and out of the table.

The food was ok, ridiculously overpriced though. The best thing we had was the soup. We went there for high tea and it was incredibly expensive. What was really shocking was how tacky the decor was. It was January 14th and it was decked out with ugly Christmas decorations. There wasn't an inch of space in the room without something placed on it. The tea was delicious! The service was great. But it is strange that it gets such great reviews. It's really outdated.

This place has a ton of tea options. I enjoyed the two I tried (basic English Breakfast and Lapsang Suchong), but I went over to the Emporium afterwards and smelled a bunch of them, and although many smelled too sweet for me, there were plenty that I wanted to try.

We got the Afternoon Tea tower. Overall, this was not a great tower. The baked goods were quite dry, and I think there could have been a better balance of savory vs. sweet (there was a lot of sweet). I'd give the food a 3/5.

The overall experience and service was great.

I do think their bathroom was painfully small and overly crowded. The arrangement of the location of the toilet paper + paper towels + trash was too close together, so you couldnt really avoid dripping some water onto the toilet paper when you went to get a paper towel. There was a ton of decor in there, which I wish would be repurposed to be more functional (e.g. storing spare toilet paper). I'm honestly not sure how you would use the restroom with a disability, but maybe the other room was more accessible than the one I used.

Queen Mary's Tea Room is exactly what you want when you're craving a proper afternoon tea experience. From the moment you walk in, the staff are genuinely kind and friendly, the kind of people who make you feel welcome without it feeling forced or overly formal. The tea service itself feels classic and thoughtful, and it's perfect for a slow, cozy afternoon. And honestly, the decor is a big part of the charm, it's delightfully kitschy in the best way. If you've never been, I absolutely encourage you to go, I've been coming here for years and it's always a tasty and memorable time.

The afternoon tea was incredible. The butternut soup was amazing. Ask for the jam and marmalade to enjoy with the scones.
