Tasty chocolate. This was 42% chocolate - enough sweetness, not overpowered, you can still taste the cocoa bean and the cinnamon powder. Get something savory or bread, it will go well with their drinks.
Good customer service!
Great products… great service BUT the store lets homeless people inside. While I support and welcome the great gesture to allow them to sit and dine, they also allowed them to bring in all of their bags with lot of dirty items(could be drugs, rags, trash… I don’t know). This is completely unsanitary. It’s their choice though. I won’t be returning and won’t recommend it for people who want to go there with their kids unless their policy changes.
RESPONSE TO OWNER:
Thank you for hearing me out. Upgrading the rating because your shop was truly amazing and appreciate your customer centric approach. We are all human here and thank you for being kind to everyone. Let’s just make sure our kindness doesn’t end up hurting anyone. We will happily return.
great mochas
Love this place. Deliciously authentic Mexican chocolate drinks. There's no shortage of coffee shops in Seattle but only Rey Amargo specializes in chocolate drinks (both hot and cold). My wife and I are regulars at the cafe and they are now open daily until 8:00 pm.
First came here Dec 2023 on our first trip to Seattle and we visited the coffee shop 3 times within that week stay. It’s always lingered in the back of our minds and finally came back in Dec 2025 the quality and great taste have stayed the same. The rich Mexican chocolate with the mix of espresso paired with their delicious conchas.
Thank you for having a customer restroom open
Great stop for a delicious churro. The Mexican mocha was also very good.
Service is a bit slow for churros that are premade but it's worth the wait.
I didn't like the charge a dollar for each sauce. We barely ate any of the chocolate we got, it would be better if they drizzled a bit on top and then you wouldn't need to buy extra unless you really want to shower your churros in sauce.
So good but different than what I'm used to— different in the best way. There were 3 in our group and we each got something different and it was ALL amazing. The hot chocolate where you get the chili was the best of all. I can hardly wait to go back! Oh and the churros were great, too!

Delicious Mexican Mochas.
I had an amazing experience at this chocolate shop on Capitol Hill! It's rare to find a place where the boss and owner is right there, tending to the front and making sure every detail is perfect. Their dedication and quality of service really stands out.
Something unique is having someone who speaks Spanish at the counter; It's a very welcoming touch, especially in this area, and made the experience feel warm and close. Everything here is authentic, with chocolates straight from Mexico, bringing a true taste of Mexican culture to Seattle.
The originality of their products is unmatched, with flavors and textures that you will not find anywhere else. Not only is everything fresh and clean, but I left feeling fantastic; no heavy or overly sweet feeling, just pure satisfaction. This place is a true gem!

Love grabbing a hot chocolate and a snack with friends at this cafe! The staff are always welcoming and there are so many flavors of drinks to try. I appreciate that they cater to all preferences of drink sweetness, temperature, and milk-alternative options.
Everything I’ve had at Rey Amargo has been delicious and I make an effort to try something new every time. The packaged mixes and chocolates make great gifts as well!

Very friendly staff and the place is just calm and inviting. I came to try the chocolate as i have been craving Mexican hot chocolate for a while and it did not disappoint it in fact exceeded my expectations. The chocolate is very rich and I can tell it is high quality. I tried the mayan chocolate and would give it a 10/10. I also tried the strawberry concha and would also give it a 10/10 as it had an actual flavoring of strawberry instead of the sugar just being pink. I will definitely come here more whenever I miss the Mexican hot chocolate my grandma makes
