So Jelly(fish) me and the pod did not get to swarm the Sea Monster Lounge.

To be continued…

SeaMonster is a very cool place. When we were there, they had a live bass player on, which made the vibe even better and was really fun to watch. The bartender was absolutely super friendly and made us feel very welcome. Great atmosphere all around — we’ll definitely be coming back.

We were genuinely excited to bring friends visiting from out of state to this venue. Unfortunately, the conduct of one door staff member made that impossible and ensured we won’t be returning.

At the entrance, my boyfriend, who is from out of state, attempted to be helpful by mentioning where the date of birth appears on his license, something he is frequently asked by staff elsewhere. The man checking IDs at the door immediately responded with hostility and used inappropriate language to shut him down. This reaction was unnecessary and escalated a routine ID check into a tense situation.

When I presented my ID, we were initially allowed inside. However, before our friends were even given the opportunity to present their IDs, the same employee abruptly told us we had to leave. Side note, my friend mentioned to me that this man was hostile and rude to the group that was before us in line, whom I had overheard ultimately decided that they would save the trouble in dealing with this individual by going to a bar across the street instead. Anyway, back to us, no policy issue was cited, and no explanation related to identification was provided. The decision appeared to be driven by the interaction itself rather than any rule violation.

What makes this especially concerning is that this was not an isolated experience. On a previous visit, this same employee physically grabbed my shoulder and yanked me away from the payment desk and all the way out the door (my friends were horrified) after I misunderstood whether he had finished checking my ID. There was no verbal warning or attempt to clarify before physical contact was made.

Door staff are meant to verify identification and help maintain a safe, welcoming environment. Using intimidation, hostility, or physical force in response to minor misunderstandings does the opposite and reflects poorly on the venue as a whole.

Because of repeated experiences like this, many of my friends and people I know avoid this venue entirely and speak negatively about it. That is business being lost solely due to the behavior of one employee, not the venue itself.

I’m leaving this review so ownership is aware of how damaging this behavior is. Interactions like these create unnecessary risk and liability and drive away paying customers. I sincerely hope this is addressed so guests can feel respected and safe when entering your establishment.

They didn’t let us in because they wouldn’t accept international driver license as ID, and we already had prepaid tickets for the music performance

One of the best places to soak up local music while having crisp and tasty local beers...

This is where Seattle Music is born, workshoped, and celebrated. Go on a Friday for the Funk 2 Death show or come see some other local talent. It's a nice sized club for dancing, lounging, live shows, or a live jam session where anyone can join in on the fun. The drinks are nice and don't forget to tip your bartenders because they know how to take care of you.

I love this place, they support our Latino musicians and I don't mind the drive from Issaquah to Seattle to come and heard excellent live music.

Seattle institution for local funky fun bands to bounce the house. Great sound, good vibes, staff always pleasant.
