I really want to love this bar because I love Belgian beer. But good beer alone is not enough to make a bar worth visiting. I've gone here twice now, and both times I was left wondering how this place stays in business. It was mostly empty, with no music playing making it feel lifeless.

If they really want to remain a Capitol Hill staple, they need to think about how they'll attract more customers. For example, they really ought to serve food in addition beer, otherwise people will leave as soon as they get hungry. I'd also recommend adding some TVs to play European soccer matches. Something to give people a reason to return on a regular basis to watch their favorite teams.

Ultimately I'm rooting for this bar to succeed, but it's hard for me to justify coming back regularly.

Stumbling Monk had an impressive beer selection of the German expression and definitely seemed to cater to locals. Older bar vibes for sure, but had a solid time.

It was so great stopping in here. The owner has a passion and it comes through in the service and product. If you want a genuine bar experience, plus a little bit of fun with all the games. Look to the stumbling monk

No better place to sip on a fancy beer and play a game of chess. Every neighborhood worth its salt has got to have a bar just like this!

If you are passing by, look through the window, and decide to walk in, you'll get exactly what you're looking for. If you decide to keep walking, you won't be missing much. This place is like Moe's Tavern, except with a good beer selection. There's no food, but you can bring some in.Theres some board games to play - classic (chess and go), or party games (say anything, pictionary, etc). Or, you can chat with friends and strangers, or read something. The large front windows make you feel like you're never too far from the street and makes for good people watching.
