If you’re a “give me the hippie veg food”/Moosewood restaurant type of person, they’ve got you. The vegan highlander was awesome (more places need to get on board with tofu tempeh in the same dish, yum. Also their tempeh is great) Updated from previous review on 2025-03-21
Staff was perfectly kind, but very slow. It took a very long time to get breakfast here. I ordered the poppy seed waffle and thought it was tasty but a little salty. Good selection of options on the menu. Overall, not a bad spot, but not anything to write home about.
Bad food. Rude service

Food and drinks are good. Surprisingly, they didn't show any vegan cheese options on the menu that I could see. They display art from local artist and have a cool loft area. All the staff are friendly and quick to help or refill.

Absolutely lovely food. As a vegan to have so many choices of breakfast is a TREAT! I had the Highlander and it is scrumptious....they make a spicy and flavorful red pepper sauce over tempeh, tofu, peppers + onions. The place is relaxing and homey. Love the big windows. Super attentive staff.
Vegan highlander is delicious! Staff is super friendly and the place has a good ambiance. The upstairs vibe is a little less nice and the food takes a little while, but their pepper sauce on the tempeh makes it worth it for sure!

After the mixed reviews here, I was a bit worried that my friends would not like it, but both they and I were positively surprised! The food was (particularly in comparison to German old school vegetarian spots) flavourful and, given how overpriced Seattle is right now, served in generous portions! Above and beyond, we even got a free mixed salad, which was delicious and had a lemon tahini dressing that exceeded my expectations by far! Honestly, I think it's a lovely café for hungry vegetarians and vegans! (Yes, I would also prefer that it was all vegan, but I would prefer that for every restaurant, so...)
Remembering the old somewhat ad hoc restaurant on Roosevelt, I looked for Sunlight on a recent visit to Seattle and found it around the corner in a new apartment building. Recalling the ambiance of the old place, I was initially a little put off by the hard edge modern space now occupied, but thankfully Sunlight is much the same with fine vegetarian offerings and pleasant staff. I had forgotten how good their lasagne and the lemon tahini dressing for salads were, and I was pleasantly surprised to find they remain on the menu and are just as good as they were in the past. It is a great little vegetarian restaurant!
Vegetarian options: Lots of choices, and based on past experience most of them are good.

Service is always friendly, but this is my second time here and both times the food has been extremely salty. I got the Huevos Rancheros with Tofu once and the Vegan Highlander another time. So much was oversalted — the tofu, the black beans, the potatoes, the veggies. For the beautiful ambiance and the chill location, I am very disappointed. A regular fruit bowl and the Huevos together amounted to $42. The servers were very kind.

I should have not ignored the most recent reviews. I went here with my in laws and my husband as a pre flight meal before they left home. The food was absolutely awful. I honestly think my ten year old self would have done a better job of cooking. The food was absolutely over spice to the point where it all had a gritty and sandy taste. I took two bites from my sad burrito and had to send it back to the kitchen. Luckily they were kind enough to refund it. I chose some banana bread as the “safe option” and it came out so dry and burnt. Sigh what a shame for the high hopes I had. It’s honestly a crime to serve food this bad and then charge people for it.
Vegetarian options: So many options and also so many ways to go wrong. Just done eat here until they know how to actually cook food.
