Let me start by saying the staff was excellent. So nice and friendly, if I was rating them solely they would get 5 stars. But sadly for me personally the pizza here is just not it. I'm comparing them to all the detroit style pizza that is popping up all over Seattle. Not a fan of the sauce. The middle of pizza got incredible soggy, while the edges tasted better it couldn't save the overall pizza. Lastly the price point is insanity the ingredients are on par with other top spots yet it's somehow ~$29 for a small pizza. It's just not equal to what you get.

Great pizza. Good location, right next to Golden Gardens. Enjoyed both the round and square pie options.

Great looking pizza, very chewy and had a slight sour taste.

Quite disappointing. I'm from Michigan, and Detroit style is my thing. This is nowhere even close to as good as Jets Pizza and Lynnwood or My Friend Derek's in Tangletown. It's also more expensive than both. I wouldn't bother with this place if you want a good Detroit style. Bummer.

EDIT: In response to the owners weird and passive aggressive response, I'm going to list exactly what the issue with the pizza was, and it wasn't just the price. I'm going to preface by saying no, I'm not a pro food critic, but I've had 1000s of pizzas, all over the world, and I'm from Michigan, so I know my pizza, and especially my Detroit style. Also, I worked in a Detroit style pizza place for over 4 years.

This Detroit pizza from Sunny Hill was way too airy and thin in the dough department. The dough had no flavor. I couldn't even tell if there was sauce on it, and the cheese had no flavor and was very sparce. The bacon had no flavor. And I got hot honey, and it was very sweet and not hot spice wise, nor temperature wise 🤷‍♂️ I do want to say, I asked for extra bake because I like mine extra crispy, but I do this at the other places as well, and it doesn't affect anything except crispness.

Overall, this is NOT Detroit style pizza in any way except the shape. If this is your standard Detroit pizza, you definitely shouldn't be selling it as that. You should only be calling it square, deep dish.

Next time, maybe a slightly less rude response would do you better for me recommending people try your restaurant or me returning to try your round pizzas. I eat pizza constantly, and recommend places to people all the time, but yours will definitely not be on the list from now on, just because of your response.

Sunny Hill is such a great neighborhood spot! The burgers are amazing and the fries are super tasty. Chill, relaxed atmosphere that makes it an easy place to hang out and enjoy a meal. Definitely a go-to for me.

Had such an awesome time at Sunny Hill this Monday. Our server, Evie, is just excellent. Knows her menu and was helpful walking us through the options. Such a gem! Oh and the cookie? To die for. Make sure you stop by for their patio seating before the PNW rain starts!

I'm 13 years I hadn't been to this part of Ballard. But I'm glad I finally stumbled upon it. The thicker yet airy crust of the pizza was delicious.

It is a smallish place. Our server was great and friendly. The pizza was outstanding. We did round crust. We like it over the deep dish.

Coming from Chicago as feeling that I’ll never find a good pizza here I came across Sunny Hill. The Detroit style pizza blew me away, absolutely delicious and the wonderful staff and thier kindness topped it off. Wonderful restaurant and I cannot wait to go back. Cheers!

Just finished a delightful dinner at Sunny Hill, a rarity these days for us with a spirited 3-year-old and 1.5-year-old in tow. But I had to write a review because, not only was the food fantastic, the staff was so accommodating of our wiggly family members. The kids can be particular about their pizza, but they downed a sizable percentage of the pies. Thank you, Sunny Hill, for putting up with our antics and enabling what ended up being a very enjoyable evening out of the house.

My boyfriend and I went here tonight (Friday) and everything was perfect! Sean/Shaun (apologies if I misspelled it) was our server and he went above and beyond. I didn’t have anywhere to put my bag when we sat down and he brought me an extra chair to set it down on without me even asking. He checked in with us just the right amount and was super kind!

There was a wait which is to be expected (especially on a Friday night) but our food came out SO quickly. Pizza, fries, and cauliflower were all delicious.

The food has been amazing and all of the staff has been so kind every time we’ve been here. Highly recommend Sunny Hill 😊
