Great bread! Would be amazing if you didn't have to deal with the folks working there. Every time I leave I think, is the bread really worth being chastised by these people? Today the answer is no and I won't return. The bread is good but not worth the time spent in such a mean spirited environment.

I’ve always liked Tall Grass Bakery for its bread and community feel, but my experience today was disappointing. I was waiting outside until they are open and they welcomed me to let in. It was very nice at that point. I was very excited to purchase their fresh bread just came out of the oven and share the bread with my families and people at my child's school event. I asked about the difference between the regular sourdough and the rye sourdough, hoping to learn a bit more before deciding. The cashier seemed confused by my question and didn’t try to clarify or explain, which already felt a bit dismissive.
After I decided to buy both loaves, they tossed the bag with my bread instead of handing it to me. Their words were polite, but their attitude and actions didn’t match. It left me feeling unappreciated as a customer, especially at a small local bakery where warmth and care are part of what makes the place special.
The bread is wonderful, but I hope the staff can remember that kindness and attention are just as important as good quality.

We had the hominy bread, which was absolutely delicious, along with a poppy seed cake and a coconut & ginger scone. The scone wasn’t too sweet—just the way it should be. The poppy seed cake came with a lemon and sugar coating that added a perfect zingy kick.

Best bread in Seattle, imhb. Huge variety, not too sweet <3 so lucky to have this bakery. I drive half an hour on the weekends to get this bread, and I’m stoked every time.

Best bread rolls in Seattle. Finally a place where there is no sugar in the bread. If you are from Europe, definitely check it out!

Pulled up in the last 30 minutes. Brioche pull-apart is yummy, if you like dinner rolls then get the brioche. Cherry chocolate chip cookie was lacking in cherry and had no chocolate. Idk if I got the wrong cookie, it seemed like an oatmeal cookie with one small piece of cherry. It was still good cookie tho. Lady that took care of was a very nice.

After years of searching, finally found a bakery in Seattle that makes spelt loaf…and a damn good one!
Nothing crazy, just a team of kind folks who love to bake with good ingredients.
Sesame baguette was solid too.

Very small bakery. You can see them working. Yummy breads and pastries. No place to sit inside, a couple tables outside. Will fit 2-3 people inside at a time to get you food.

The cutest little bakery in Ballard! They had THE BEST cinnamon rolls. So fresh and perfectly sweet. The sourdough bread and baguette were also delicious! Highly recommend if you’re visiting Ballard

I go here a lot with my dog, who gets a little bite of old soft bread with a visit.
But the baked goods for humans: oh my! I feel like this place encapsulates “really good bread before making bread became cool.” A wide variety of different daily loaves with each one being a hit, at a shockingly low price. And the sweet treats: yeah, this isn’t a patisserie, you’re not getting a flaky croissant here. You’re getting a really excellent cookie or scone, also at an excellent price. Crusty or squishy, airy or chewy, crumbly or lip-smacking—however the sourdough or brioche or honey oat or whatever you’re ordering, it’ll be what it’s supposed to be, which is delicious.
This place is legit. I’ve had some fantastic bread in Seattle but this place is by far the best. Fresh, crusty on the outside, spongy on the inside. Baked goods are stellar too. It’s our weekly go-to and we haven’t had a miss yet. And the prices are really good - $7 for a loaf (as of June 2025) compared to $10-$12 in some other places and at the farmers market.
This place knows bread. I’d come back.
