Ok so here’s the story:
- burger was 10/10, but literally got 4 pieces of potato. (Home fries)… for $18.
- mimosa was awesome
- accommodation on an early closing was very considerate!!
I think we might’ve just gone on a very unfortunate day for the Fat Hen. For unforeseen reasons they were closing at 1pm and still took our seating as our original resi was at 1:30pm and they said to arrive & be seated by 1. But they literally meant “card orders in by 1” which is VERY different.
I wasn’t really sure if they should’ve sat us in the first place if they weren’t wanting to keep having customers, and I wish we were just turned away.
We were inevitably rushed through the meal and dining experience. I will say there’s a 20% gratuity automatically, and yes there’s a 3% surcharge on credit cards. Again, I don’t want to discredit the efforts of the wait staff but we felt unwelcome from the start.
$40 for a mimosa, burger, and really off putting vibes.

I came because of all the recommendations and high rating. It's not that great. There's like 7 food items and the most highly recommend is something that tastes like pizza but it's a dip? Honestly over hype. I'm glad I came here alone before wasting everyone else's money I'd would have came here with.
*I ordered eggs Benedict and the Italian Nutella coldbrew*
For starters the food wasn't the greatest but looked good on my plate. The service wasn't terrible, but she only came to my table times. I had to go inside to ask for the check. The atmosphere smelled like the bathroom. The smell was so bad I asked for a seat outside. (Limited seating)
$$$$$
There is a 20% service fee no matter your party size and additional 3% surcharge if you pay with credit card

Fat hen is great. I've never had a bad meal here. The only reason I don't go more often is it can be a challenge to get a table as a walk-in, and I don't have the foresight to make a reservation for brunch.

Incredible breakfast & cafe experience. Both the beverage options and food were incredible - plus the relaxed, home kitchen like feel of the space itself tied everything together.

What a disappointment!
The food is good, but, nothing so extraordinary to charge an automatic tip of 20% on the total bill (including tax), and a 3% surcharge for the credit card payments. Even for a to-go order. Unbelievable!

Server was not very friendly. We asked for a table for 4 and felt like we were inconveniencing her, so this started our visit on a bit of a tense note.

We were a bit disappointed that the server wasn’t friendlier throughout our visit considering this hefty service fee. We paid cash to avoid the extra 3% charge, but with a drink, each person still spent $30+.
The eggs on the Benedict’s were cooked excellently, mushrooms were flavourful, and potatoes are nice and crispy. Alla Boscaiola was flavourful but just a bit heavy. Pickled onions and cucumbers in the burger were a bit too briny and overpowering but otherwise enjoyed the burger. The strawberry matcha was pretty good; the strawberry syrup was a bit too strong for my taste.
The atmosphere is quaint and cozy; great brunch vibes.

My daughter arrived 1 minute ahead of me and was told it would be a 1hr 15min wait. But when I asked to put our name in for a table, the hostess said they would not have any tables available. I smiled and said, you just told my daughter that it was a 1hr 15 min wait, and we liked their reviews. She scoffed at me and said, "What was available was now gone." There were no other people who walked in between my daughter and I, so this must have been based on some other facor. ? So I said we'd be happy to brunch somewhere else.
We found Pete's Egg Nest nearby and we were delighted with their dishes and stellar service. (Their review is next ?)

Buoyed by all the reviews in here, I decided to try this place out for breakfast. We got an oat cappuccino and drip coffee to start with. I was immediately put off by the coffee - it was so sour and acidic. Even the drip coffee too. For food, we got the ricotta toast and salmon toast. The ricotta was sour to taste and I didn’t want to finish it. The salmon toast was just okay - the price doesn’t justify the food we got. They levy 20% service charge + 3% credit card transaction fee. Overall, a huge disappointment and a very overhyped place.

This is easily one of my favorite restaurants. The food here is incredible and you will not find other places serving up these recipes. The only downside is that the space is very small, so getting a table can be difficult and sitting inside feels a bit cramped. I much prefer sitting outside.
Google asked me to drop a review, and now I have a craving for this place. I'm gonna make a reservation now.
