This place very much hit the spot in the sea of bougie counter-service overprice burgers and whatnot where you're paying more for the vibe than anything else that is Seattle's restaurant scene. You want to sit down and eat something off a real plate with a knife and fork? Come here. I've been told this place is an institution, and that's a reputation that's well-deserved.

Just be wary of the parking situation, the lot is oddly shaped and there's only a single-lane entrance/exit.

Love this place, great breakfast. Not expensive. Good coffee.

While on walk-about in Wallingford, I came across the Varsity Inn in the south end of the neighborhood. I was enticed by the “espresso” sign outside (which I will review in a different post). After settling in and looking at the menu I chose to get lunch. The server recommended the Mediterranean Omelet made with eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, feta cheese, onions and olives. The dish came with hashbrowns and toast. The food arrived quickly and when I saw the size I exclaimed “wow that is huge, it is way too much food” and the server laughed. The food was delicious! The ingredient combination was well balanced and flavorful. The hashbrowns were well cooked and the service was fantastic!

First time here. Staff is great, but the food was mediocre. It came out fast, but the hashbrowns hardly had a crisp and weren’t seasoned, toast was barely toasted, over medium eggs were a bit overcooked. My son’s French toast was good, bacon was okay.

Varsity Inn is a staple to our community. The food is delicious, the employees are incredibly kind, and my dog looks forward to her (almost daily) visits to the door for treats. Thank you for being here! Stop in for a buckwheat pancake and say hi to Patty!

A very retro experience. Food is typical American fare. Experience makes up for it.

Perfect old school diner, with very nice staff, good coffee and great omelettes. Been here forever and still serving great diner food.

Not sure how other people are rating this place 5 star. The place has a great old school Seattle diner vibe but the prices are what you would pay for a fancy dinner place. Food is an average diner food but the prices make me want to rate the place 3/5. Too pricey for the food quality.

A nice diner near the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) in Seattle. I believe they only serve breakfast and lunch. Not dinner.
I had brunch of the Spinach and Mushroom Omelet. Very tasty, with Hollandaise sauce, shoelace potatoes and an English muffin. Large enough serving that I had some to take home for breakfast the following day.
There is a small dirt parking lot behind the building, plus on street parking.

It’s an American Diner with friendly staff! We love Patty and have been coming for years. The daily specials rotate and a lot of them are Mexican inspired .

They also make espresso drinks and have mimosas if you want bubbles with your breakfast.
