I took some classes there as well as I rented their studio for my classes. Good floors, good location, great pricing. I also had a photo shoot there and it was great!

Don't take a class with Lex Ramirez. She caters to beginners, because she does not have the skill to teach advanced classes. Not only is she a terrible dancer, she's a cishet woman who appropriates queer ball culture. She claims to create an inclusive and non-competitive environment for her dance classes, but perhaps she should incorporate that attitude in real life. She is needlessly competitive with other dance teachers and professional performers in attempt to gain "clout" from the community and resents anyone who is exceling more than her. Please leave the "mean girl" attitude at home.

I started taken classes from Lex Ramirez, a hip hop choreographer, and she made me feel so welcome and helped me better understand the history of hip hop. I love taking her classes it was a great mental clarity and she's great at making everyone at all skill levels feel included.

I take hip hop classes with Lex Ramirez at Velocity. I've been dancing my entire life, but find Lex's classes to be truly unique and captivating. She ticks all the standard boxes of being a great dancer, patient teacher, and holding fun, well-paced classes. She meets you where you're at and, before you know it, you're 20 times better than before. After coming back to dance after a 3 year break, she encouraged me to start choreographing again, which has become a real joy in my life. But what really sets her apart is her ability to create community. She has a way of gathering a bunch of socially anxious, wildly different individuals and making them a family. She has been a staple in my life now for over a year and I'm eternally grateful that I gave her class a chance. The friendships I've formed will forever have an impact on me. I highly recommend getting involved with anything that has Lex Ramirez's name attached

Love Lex's classes! I’ve taken hip hop choreo classes with Lex for about 9 months now and have also been a part of her Drop Squad dance group. I started the year with very little dancing experience and have been so happy with the progress - both in dancing ability and confidence - I’ve made as a result of her classes. Lex has a talent for making dancers, new and experienced, feel welcome in her classes. She’s very encouraging towards everyone in class and is great at showing people how to simplify or add texture to moves, based on their ability. She can teach a large range of dance styles and I’ve enjoyed taking all the different classes she offers.Another great aspect of her classes is the special emphasis she places on community. Not only does she care about her immediate dancing community by incorporating team-building activities into the classes and paying attention to each individual - but she also is very considerate of the artist community as a whole. Her classes touch on the history of hip hop so that this important background of the art form can be appreciated and retained. In addition, many of the songs she uses come from Seattle artists to give exposure to local talent. Lex is a phenomenal dancer and dancing instructor - I could not recommend her more!

I started my classes at Velocity with Lex Ramirez's Hip Hop Choreography over a year ago. SOO glad I joined!! Her choreographies are both very fun and challenging. The range of songs chosen + choreography taught has helped me become a better dancer overall by focusing on fluidity in addition to energy. Additionally, she's the only instructor in the many years I've learned dance, who focuses on building a community and makes all of her students of any skill level, feel included. Not only do I walk away improving my dancing abilities, but also with a community of people to bond with over the same. Always look forward to her classes!

I came to Lex’s Hip Hop class in Spring 2019. At that time I was a senior student, I was in a lot of stress and Lex’s classes filled me with joy and excitement. One thing I really love about Lex’s Hip Hop class is she always starts the class with a round of circle introducing each other. I have been dancing ever since I was young, there was never any class like this and as an introvert myself, making friends in dance class became hard. Lex’s simple class routine allows me to get to know more people and develop friendships.Lex always uses real life examples to express her dance and guide us into the choreography. “Imagine your ear has some water and you gently shake your head to get it out”, I found her teaching method is very creative, fun, helpful and close to life.During class, Lex is a dedicated teacher and outside of class, she is a caring person. I am really glad that I got to know Lex as a dance instructor and as a friend. Lex’s Hip Hop classes not only improve my physical and mental health but also allow me to experience a deep sense of community and be part of something greater. I strongly recommend Lex’s class and her community dance group Drop Squad if you want to explore dancing or just simply want to broaden up your social life!

I took intro to dance : hip hop with Michael O' Neal Jr. Or, to be more specific, 40 minutes of it - enough to realize I don't learn the way he teaches. I want to caveat this that I don't consider myself as being able to dance, and I don't have any "default moves". I described my dancing experience as "barely moving to music - sometimes to the beat." When prompted, I just try to copy people around me for a few minutes at a time and then stop dancing. I don't even know how to process the phrase "Just dance what's inside you" or "just express yourself". I just don't get that idea. I feel like I'm playing a videogame and don't know the moves. I'm not just going to mash buttons. If I'm paying you to show me moves, I'd expect that you'd show me moves before you ask me to play.

Consistently great dance performances

I've only taken classes with Jarett Hughes, but he is wonderful. His choreo is a good mix of masculine and feminine hip hop. Balances the booty shaking with variety. There is a solid queer presence there and the warm up at the beginning gets you sweating before you even start shaking it.

If you have even a passing interest in dance, I highly recommend taking advantage of any of the 6-week "intro to dance" classes offered here. Very positive and accessible learning environment to dancers of all skill levels. Their website has more info about what's currently offered. At $15/class it is an amazing value for top-tier instruction and socializing.

Their building is very old and lacks sound quality and control. Music is so loud you can hear it from Cal Anderson park, and near by apartments. They play music until 4am on weekends which is a huge drag if you work on weekends. It just proves how selfish people can be as well as disrespectful. And it's less a dance school and more of a club
