I ordered the cream chicken and chicken keema naan via DoorDash. As someone who is born and bought up in Delhi I have had chawlas for numerous times so had certain expectations when ordering. It was underwhelming in terms of taste and quantity, chicken keema naan which was for $9.50 barely had any minced chicken in it and was bland at best and not cooked well enough, also to top it off it didn’t have the complementary gravy a keema naan is supposed to come with which was mentioned in DoorDash .

The cream chicken was flavorful but was bit on salty side and quantity for the price paid was not that good .

They just opened up a new location in Capitol Hill. The Garlic Naan and Cream Chicken, which is their specialty, were fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and offers quick service. A very good addition to the neighborhood!

Be ye warned, all who attempt to eat from here!

Place looked unclean (saw a nasty dustpan on the table) and food wasn't evenly cooked.

Foolish of me to not trust my gut because now my gut is forcing me to listen to it.

I ordered chicken curry and there were several huge chunks of gristle in it.

Horrible service and bland food. Avoid this place if you can.

I placed a pickup order for tandoori chicken, but the chicken was very bland and didn’t even seem to be cooked in a tandoor. They didn’t even give us chutney.

OVER TAKE

Big fan of Chawla, Eating cream chicken and apetizer since growing up in Ludhiana, my uncle owns Chawla in india Kharar also, this location is Unacceptable. Their food is so bland, their butter naaan is Parantha not a naan, fish was soggy , tandoori chicken was uncooked and most important they didn’t even gave me enough chutney and salad for the amount of appetizer ordered. I mean I was very excited to try Chawla but unfortunately its nothing compared to even an avg Indian restaurant. It ll be difficult for running a business like this.
Also its Chawla specialty to serve bread with cream chicken . Its fake so chill GOOD LUCK

It should be noted that I don’t post reviews anymore unless I really, really like a place and want to tell people about it so it stays in business.

The food has fresh spices(very potent and yummy). The place had very nice people and was very clean. I loved their food and the staff did not make me feel dumb for asking questions that might be obvious to many people with more experience with Indian food. ?

The only thing I disliked is the direct overhead lighting—we went after dark.I am very sensitive to certain light and feel this makes it a little hard for me to eat on location. I am autistic so this might be specific to just me.

I will say, tho, the bright lighting made it very clear to me how much care is taken in this restaurant and how clean it was. The pride they take is evident everywhere you look. It isn’t the fanciest place but it is a place you somehow can tell means the whole world to someone.

Dietary restrictions: I have a cinnamon allergy that is really hard to navigate, especially around Indian food. I called ahead and he looked at the ingredients and double checked that the curry base doesn’t have cinnamon in it. Very wonderful of him ? I will note that I still had a mild reaction (which I resolved with medication) so be aware that if you have a severe cinnamon allergy, just don’t risk it. It’s a rare allergy so doubtful this will help anyone.

Kid-friendliness: I also brought a 15 year old and I would absolutely feel safe with them going here alone. Really, really nice people.

The person who owns this restaurant is kind and humble. He will not compromise on quality. He supervises his kitchen closely and we ate authentic Indian food, felt like home. Ordered paneer bhurji, pala paneer and yellow daal with lacha paratha, garlic naan, and butter roti. Phenomenal quality and taste, with an excellent use of Indian spices. Highly recommend and a must visit. Planning to come here more often for Indian lunch/dinner
