This place is a diamond in the rough! My sister and I go all the time - we've never had a bad meal. We always visit during restaurant week for three courses for $30 in October and April. The place is on the smaller side but it has a modern feel, great staff, and a full bar. I definitely recommend it if you want a quality meal.
We've heard great things about this place! Now with the lets help some small businesses in the area because of the Covid 19 we finally tried it. Well we've been 3 times in a week. Wonderfully made fresh food. Great curbside service and customer service! The special each day changes. The chicken alfredo is so good and a large portion for only 10 bucks. Highly recommend.
During the COVID19 pandemic, they offered a special menu for food togo. The beef ribs with collard greens, mashed potatoes, salad and a drink was awesome. The meat was so tender. We loved it so much that we ordered it the next week too.
We've come from South Hill during the pandemic to try out and help out as much as we could with their take-out specials, a great idea for a full-service eatery. The location is indeed off-putting, like eating full-service south of SoDo in industrial Seattle. They deserve a better location than this for the quality food and imaginative menu; maybe someday. Somebody inside has gambled with great food at the expense of outside ambience (if you will!) and won. Sometime we'll eat within, even six feet away! Great and surprising place in middle of nowhere. Hard to be disappointed.
The staff is professional and friendly and immediately upon entering you feel welcome. Very clean and worth getting out of the house for a 5 star meal. The food is phenomenal and we will definitely be back to enjoy this hidden gem in the near future! Highly recommended to anyone looking for great service and great food!
Excellent drink cocktails. All sauces are made in house. Eric the owner very friendly came to check on us. Deer sliders is a must have.
Had my first experience at Bar Bistro this evening we sat at the bar and from start to finish the experience was amazing the service from Eric was great and the food was super on point, I had the spicy prawns-delicious and for the main had lamb chops they were cooked and seasoned perfectly. I will be back for-sure.
Absolutely fantastic. Michael was a very nice, attentive waiter. Food was seasoned and balanced. Yummy. Looking forward to going again.
Close but, not quite. Clearly effort has been put into this establishment both in terms of its decor and menu. Perhaps it's the staff. Service was lackluster and slow. Everything from how my beer was poured (short) to the quality of the food was lacking (under cooked noodles). I wanted to like this place. It wasn't horrible but not worth coming back to either.
Great local spot for dinner good drinks and nice atmosphere. It's a great mid week get away spot
Great hidden place. EXTREMELY OVER PRICED! But the food was good. Great for happy hour the prices are reasonable on the HH menu and the drinks selections are amazing.
Very unassuming building in the middle of a light industrial section of Tacoma. Maybe not the "best" neighborhood in Tacoma but I did not feel unsafe at 7pm on a Saturday night in February. Upon entering, we found the restaurant to have a large open dinning area which maintained a comfortable noise level throughout dinner and the decor was a clean masculine wood and metal in keeping with it's neighborhood yet it was balanced with soft touches that made it a comfortable environment. Our server, Michael, was welcoming, conversational and knowledgeable about the menu. He was able to provide great guidance on preferences and options without making us feel like his recommendations would surpass our eventual decisions. He deserved a great tip. The food was very enjoyable for the price point and the neighborhood. I have recently been disappointed by paying way more for a substantially underseasoned meal. They are not afraid to season at Bar Bistro and I appreciate it. Be prepared that the spicy prawns are spicy as advertised but they are excellent! I had the duck with collard greens and they allowed me to sub in creamed cabbage for the mashed potatoes in keeping with a Keto eating plan. The duck was well cooked and enjoyable, the greens were tender and had that nice balance of seasonings and vinegar and I have never had creamed cabbage before but I really enjoyed it with a creamy bacon and light cheese flavour. My husband had the cuban and said, while he has has better in Miami, it is the best cuban he has had in this area. He had sweet potato fries in the side and they were lightly salted and fried to perfection. My husband enjoyed perusing the bar selection and a quick conversation with Eric, the owner. He noted a nice selection of bourbons (some highly allocated) he is interested in coming back to sample. Don't let the location fool you. Overall this is a great restaurant with great food at a great value and you can tell the owner and staff care.
We went here cause all the wonderful reviews on yelp. WHAT a total flop. I'm a foodie, we dont go out to eat very often cause we cook amazing food at home, so when we do go out it better be good. This place was not 5 stars like most of the reviews state. I guess it's all what you consider 5 stars.
Great hidden gem in southeast Tacoma. Excellent service (thanks Jessica), solid creative cocktails, excellent menu and reasonable prices. We will definitely be back!
Was seated fairly quickly. Food was very delicious not the best, but pretty good. I ordered steak wife had a salad, They had to remake my wife's drink but sometime she can be kind of picky. Atmosphere is OK. Outside doesn't look like much is going on. Glad we went. Our waiter was very nice and polite. I would go back if I was in the area but I wouldn't make a special trip. Definitely worth a try.
This was an unexpected gem. I had the boar ragu pasta. The noodles tasted fresh and the boar was cooked to perfection. I also had the carrot cake, which was also very good. Not too sweet. The staff is friendly and helpful. Good selection of drinks. I had a couple beers and a sample of my friends old fashion, which was on point.
Edit: Added a star because though our experience was not good, I appreciate the owner taking responsibility and time to respond. I will give it another try and hopefully will change to a 5 star!
It is a small restaurant with room for probably 30 guests at most at capacity. For lunch, with T-Mobile and plenty of other businesses nearby, expect a wait! Many people call ahead for takeout, so that is a great option as well. I personally like to dine-in, so a late lunch or later dinner tends to be a good move.
We just had our annual company party there. The food and presentation were awesome! The service alone, was worth my 5 stars. They went above and beyond in making our party amazing. Definitely plan to come back soon.
I ate the Angus Burger and it was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. And the sweet potato fries that came with it were stellar. Add in the creme brulee, and your taste buds will thank you forever. The staff was excellent. I will definitely be going back.
So delicious! Our server Michael was awesome and so polite. The food was fantastic. I had the lamb and my husband had the burger. The lamb was perfect! I also ordered a side of collard greens and I'm so happy that I did. Random area of Midland but highly recommend that you try this place. We will be back. Can't wait to try more dishes.
Food was delicious, excellent presentation, great atmosphere and decor, unique menu. I got the steak and fries, expecting something very basic, and was surprised to get a quality cut of steak with a Chipotle gravy. Our server whose name I did not get was friendly and anticipated our needs before we did. Our water glasses were never more than half empty. Definitely seems out of place in Parkland, because it's much nicer than anything nearby!
great drinks and friendly staff. also great food
The food is great! My compliments to the chef! The room you eat in sucks. It feels like a dance floor and sounds like one. The food that is cooked there is an art. The room does not allow you to indulge.
Jason is a great server and individual!
Great service! Great atmosphere and amazing food! We will definitely be back!
Great food! Went for restaurant week. Street tacos were delicious and tangy. Halibut was moist with a good sauce. Tasty mashed taters!
Was recommended to this place by a colleague for a date night. He would not stop talking about how wonderful it is. ...... Right on! Great server. Excellent excellent food.
The food is always great. The drink menu changes with different variations of drinks. Comfortable atmosphere with great staff
Truly an enjoyabled dining experience. From the exquisitely crafted specialty cocktails to the chef inspired fare, this nondescript place is an absolute must. You will understand once you venture in. Truly remarkable.
Very good food and our service was great. Michael was attentive and informative. Very nice experience.
The "Darkness" drink was amazing! And those pork street tacos were delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and attractive
Just 4 blue walls on the outside but when you walk inside you feel like you are in an upscale bistro. Service was awesome and helpful. The food was delicious. The choice is varied and not your ordinary fare. I want to go back to try the slate's caramel beignet. We were too full for dessert
It rarely disappoints. This is a great secret spot in Midland. Food is delicious and the staff is pleasant. I enjoy myself everytime I'm here. I enjoy the chef's creativity. Make sure to give it a try.
Amazing. Very classy. Unique menu, everything is made from scratch in house. Great cocktail list with some very unique drinks. We just moved to the Tacoma/Midland area and are looking forward to returning again and again!
The food is excellent and the cocktails are fantastic!!! The staff is very friendly and professional.
Found this little gem hidden in east Tacoma during a lunch break suggested by one of my coworkers and have to say it was the best lunch recommendation he's even given! Since then I've returned twice and each time the food was wonderful, amazing really I got the lunch rice bowl and as plain as that sounds it was an explosion of flavors. I subbed mushrooms for the steak (vegetarian here) and it could have been what set the dish off, they were done to perfection. I was actually bummed when I returned for dinner to learn it was only a lunch special. However, at that dinner we did order the brie bread plate and I have to say it was top 3 or 4 of brie bread plates I've had the pleasure to enjoy. Dessert sounded so good I got 2 options and they were just that, SO Good. The creme brulee was perfect and she accommodated my berry request to the top and the mousse was airy and light and amazing. It was presented very beautifully too. Service first visit, 5 out of 10 he was nice but kind of scatter brained. 2nd (dinner) 10 out of 10 she was perfect. 3rd 3 out of 10 he took forever to take our orders, bring our checks and he was not knowledgeable of the menu. Food 10 out of 10 all visits Great music ranging from 90s hits to modern hits, idk what TV station you have on but it makes me wish I had cable Never super busy or a long wait. Clean and modern inside. Would definitely recommend and will return when I get the chance!
Please note we did not return mainly as we were all from 3 different states. But the response from the owner was on point, addressed each concern, and swift that is why I added 3 stars. I appreciate when an owner rea has out. I did not call (I thought about it) because I did not know what type of response I would get. I am pleased the owner cares. He has offered us something that we appreciated but will not take him up on because that is not what I want. I want small businesses to be successful and take my review as a busy night and growing pains. Again lobster roll yummy, baked brie a must. Keep excelling Bar Bistro but please look at more servers it is not fair to your rock star to have the entire restaurant.
I can't say enough how much I love this place! Have been here a few times with my husband and came here for my parents anniversary last year and have had a great experience every time. The food is excellent, the drinks are delicious and the staff is very friendly and professional. We have been here when it was slower and also when it has been busy but had just as good of service in both circumstances. This business knows how to treat their customers well and will have my business for a very long time. I always leave looking forward to the next time I get to come back.
Went here went this place was fairly new and the food was okay. Visited again and thankful I did. The food was amazing. I encourage you to try them out. Start with the deep fried Brie. Everything was perfectly cooked. Service was amazing!
