Why no shucking of the oysters? It used to be a thing ... so you could just nosh on those, but that time has passed. And it bums me out (totally leading into the 80s metro vibe lingo here) anyway, really good fish and chips. Nice view. Cool spot to hang.

Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly staff. They were very patient explaining the different types of seafood, how to handle and prepare it, and explaining what works and would not transport well for those Colorado boy who has no experience at all with seafood. They definitely went above and beyond to make sure I would only take home the best and that it would arrive as fresh and as safe as possible. Big thanks especially to Jason. I'll be back next year.

I used to think the fish and chips here were fairly heavy and greasy, and they ranked pretty low on my list of fish and chip joints. But they must have changed their recipe, and I think they updated their kitchen within the last year or so, because the both the fish and the fries are so much better now. The batter is delicious and crispy without feeling too dense, same with the fries. I didn’t feel like I needed to take a nap immediately after eating, which is a major improvement.
BUT…they also must have changed their chowder recipe, and this one for the worse, because it was extremely bland. It tasted like I was just spooning warm heavy cream into my mouth with chunks of potatoes and clams in it. There was hardly any flavor at all. Maybe we just got a bad batch, I don’t know. It didn’t necessarily taste bad, it just didn’t have taste at all.
So 5 starts for the fish and chips, 2 stars for the chowder, I rounded up to 4.

They sell fresh fish that’s been in there cooler for days it stinks and not always fresh it’s been going down hill fast since the owners son took over it the employees are way over worked and way under payed and appreciated the fish n chips are not fresh it’s all previously frozen. You can go down the road and get fresh had battered fish n chips cheaper. I give this place negative 3 stars they only got one maybe two Really good employees.

Been coming here for years, always loved it.. The menu has changed a ton, which I understand happens, but I just paid 17.99+ tax for a cod sandwich with just one small piece of fish on it, while the 3 piece cod and chips is a dollar less? The food itself tastes good still.. but damn. One lil fish strip for 17.99+ tax and tip is crazy. Keep going here but skip the sandwhich at the very least.

We stopped here for salmon chowder and halibut taco lunch. And came back for smoked salmon nuggets. The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. And the seafood is delicious. Thank you Tacoma!
After all these years, Great Northern Fish Company remains the best chowder in Tacoma. I notice it seems to have changed so e personal. People were very friendly. We usually just buy lunch here, but you can buy both fresh and smoked seafood here as well. Great place to eat when it is sunny. No seating inside.
